MG TD TF 1500 - HALF A CENTURY!

Bought TF9142 in 1967. Met my wife the same year (actually, she fell in love with the TF) and it was our wedding car in 1969. Still going strong - TF too.

David,

You beauty !! Fifty(50) years of TF ownership and the success of marriage longevity as well.

I wonder if this could start a long Thread re the number of years the current owners of TDs and/or TFs have had the 'custodianship' of their cars ?

Cheers

My parents also bought their TF in the early 60s. Brought it home and started a 6 month restoration together. Married soon after. Still together and still have the car although it would have been sold a couple of times over and swapped for a Pagoda SL by my dad if my mother hadn't put her foot down. Great memories of us all traveling in it 2 adults and 2 kids! Dad turns 80 in April and the plan is to have it back on the road by then.

I love hearing about long term ownership of cars. I have had my TD for what 4 months! I have been the owner of an Austin Healey 100 since my early 20's so over 30 years. It is currently undergoing a restoration to bring it back to life. My TD and 100 are just 15 months apart in build date. To me they represent the end of one era and the start of another. By the time the mid 60's rolled around when some of you were acquiring your TF's and TD's were they yet considered collectors cars, or were they just old fashioned tatty relics that no one cared about?

Also - here's a picture of our '52 MG TD (16504) taken somewhere in Kingston, Ontario, back in the late summer of 1968 with my, then girlfriend , now wife, Lynne. Still have both of them - she's in the house and the car's in the shed undergoing a restoration after spending some 45+ years in the barn.

How 'bout SIXTY-ONE years

(Top) A club member in his 1950 TD photographed by his wife soon after they bought the car in 1956.

(Bottom) Same car, same driver, same wife, same location in March 2016

By the way, he still drives the car the way that it was intended ... fast!

Beautiful car, wonderful family, and an asset to the MG community. He was one of the founders of our club, The Classic MG Club, in 1963.

Great memories and photos guys!

My image is of self with older brother, Bill, while dismantling my TC in 1963. I was 11 years old. Dad bought the very run-down TC so we could learn about cars. I am still driving it but it needs another restoration. This is my road TC (not the race car).

My car with the first owner Richard at Ayers Rock (Uluru) in 1960. Richard sold the car to my Dad in 1973 and I became custodian in 1989.

That's a great then-and-now shot Lonnie, I can appreciate how patient you have to be to get everything lined up.

The "owned from new" club is a very small one these days. There was a Sydney member until recently when he regretfully sold it.

Matthew, A lot of people wouldn't realise the distance you had to travel to get a shot in front of Ayers Rock now called Uluru. Congratulations ...John
