MG TD TF 1500 - Hand Tools Are The BestOption
I have recently had the wheels on and off the TF a number of times. As any owner with a steel wheeled car will know the wheel nuts have a very long thread and it takes ages to wind them up. I thought I would take a short cut and found an adapter for my Dewalt cordless drill / driver that would take a socket and used this set up for initial tightening and unscrewing the nuts. Unfortunately the torque from the Dewalt has seriously injured my wrist. I have used it many times for wood screws and wood has a cushioning effect but steel on steel gives your wrist a real jolt. I don't know what goes on inside a wrist but what ever it is it sure is painful. It will be the wheel brace for me in the future.

Get an electric impact wrench. |

The good thing about hand tools is you can usually stop them right away too. |

Jan, most cordless drills have a torque adjustment as not to over tighten screws which also takes the sharp twist out, Doesn't your drill have that? PJ |

An impact wrench is much safer and more effective! And of course always start the nuts back on by hand. |

You can spin a cross-brace in your hands quite easily, especially with gloves on. Good balance and momentum with no jolt. |

You must have had it set on drill mode that locks up the clutch |

Sounds like a torque setting issue to me-- Let me tell you about wheel braces-- My best mate years ago was spinning some truck wheel nuts off with a wheel brace and when one of the nuts came off the wheel brace hit him on the side of his knee--ouch He died in his sleep that night from a blood clot----------impact driver for me Be carefull--Safety first |
