MG TD TF 1500 - Happy 60th Birthday to all!
It's Easter 2015 and the T-type production line has wound down in 1955... so even the youngest example would be over 60! :D Safety Fast, everyone. |

Yes, chassis 10,100 left the assembly line on the 4th of April 1955 (that car survives in France). Are you coming to the concours tomorrow? Matthew. |

We restored TF 1500 TF10085 built on the same day 4th April 1955. |

10095 to 10099 are all Aussie export cars although a couple of them have disappeared. Matthew. |

@Matt Yes looking forward to it, National Meets are always fantastic. :D weather looking great too, pleasant change from the dire forecast just 5d earlier. Spent 10hrs today impersonating a grease monkey... thought I'd flush the sump and install that R2058 that's been sitting around forever. Tighten a few nuts, gave the dizzy a quick wipe before night fell. Jeez time flies... last time done was probably prepping for Geelong NatMeet 2009. |

And just in case someone here did not know...this is fitting the occasion! http://mg.co.uk/news/2015/03/31/mg-opens-multimillion-dealership-in-the-heart-of-london/ |

Matthew, TF 10085 came to us in pieces in the back of a horse float complete with a Holden Grey engine. |

Rod, my TF9142 has had at least four engines - the original 1500 (which is fitted to a 1250 in Christchurch, dammit), a genuine 1250 which was fitted when I bought it in 1967, the Ford 1500 Cortina GT I fitted in 1972 with Ford gearbox (the original plot was just to fit the box, but doing the lot was simpler) and the 4/44 1250 you fitted, which was in the car when I bought it back in 2001. Hint to all - if you're fitting a 4/44 and you plan on racing it, make sure you move the oil pickup to the centre of the sump. Mine lasted half of an RH sweeper on the track before running all the bearings. Regards, David |

Dave, Have you got TF5241 as well? |
ROD BRAYSHAW |
David & Rod, I take it from your posts, that a XPAW motor (including sump) will fit into a TD chassis. I wasn't sure so I put the XPAG sump on the XPAW block before putting it into my TD chassis. If the complete XPAW motor will fit in TD, I will change the sump over and so I can build a complete XPAG motor. regards Stuart PS. Wonder how Matthew is fairing as Chief Judge at today's (Easter Saturday) Concours at the MG Nationals? |
Stuart Duncan 1953 TD |
Stuart, no the 4/44 sump is not suitable. Dave is describing the oil pickup on the any sump. |
ROD BRAYSHAW |
Rod, sadly, no. But I see it often. David |

Dave can you please email me with details so I can get my register correct? |

The concours seemed to go quite well under sunny blue skies (phew!). A good turn up of T types. Should be pics on the MGCC of Victoria website in a few days. Nice to catch up with old friends from all over Australia as well as our international guests. TF 10085 was imported new into Sydney but I have no further details until it turns up in New Zealand. There were a few TF's that received the Holden 6 cyl engine after the young guns had thrashed the original block. Not sure how they went around corners though. Matthew. |

Matthew. Good to hear the Concours went well in sunny weather. I bought my 53TD in 1974 for $50 as the other person bidding for the car wanted to put a V8 into it. Problem was, within 6 months of buying the TD, I got a job in Darwin and as Tracey had destroyed most of the town, the TD sat on a trailer under a tarp for a few years and deteriated badly. Rod & Dave, thank you for clarifying the sump issue. As I want to have 2 complete engines, a XPAW and a XPAG (with Len's cam & rollers), I need to find another XPAG sump (plus inlet and outlet manifolds etc) to put on the XPAG engine I am rebuilding. The alternative is to use the XPAG sump on the engine in the TD and the XPAW sump on the standby engine. Stuart |

Hi Stuart, if you contact me off-line I have a nice XPAW block (will bore out to 20 thou.) and an XPAG sump for sale, along with other parts. Regards, Don TF 4887 |

Morning All! National Meet Concours was FANTASTIC, big hand of applause to Matt & MGCC Crew for all their year of hard organisation. Weather stayed clear with blue skies, venue was picturesque and my scruffy toofer made it there and back 100mi without too much drama (other than losing my key there, luckily my backup crew has eagle eyes & found it). Class victor Jason was a worthy winner with a gleaming purewhite example that was too shiny to even dare park near. More so his TD took similar honours AND he drove it 1000km to get here... over some steep hills too, killed a 6-vane waterpump on his way. Amazing pigeonpair, hope to see them around regularly. |
