MG TD TF 1500 - Heater?
Saw this ebay TD. Is that a heater mounted on the firewall? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950-MG-T-Series-Convertible-/192066203891?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2cb809b0f3:g:stkAAOSwjDZYZ1-e&item=192066203891 |

Could be, but appears to be just a blower. I think you would have to look under the dash to be sure. Dave H |

Yes it is a blower,,, my question is what is the writing on the door??? I rotated it but still cant read it. |

"what is the writing on the door???"........ It's not English. Characters remind me of those on the ISIS Flag. And I have no idea what Language that is. Arabic? Farsi? Certainly not 'Merican'! Mike TF-8257 |

The angle & condition of the radiator/grille slats are as good as I've ever seen. Straight, parallel & with an angle that allows plenty of airflow. The doctor must have been one very careful racing driver. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Crazy as it might sound, that blower could have been used in a cheap experiment forcing air into the air intake. I've seen this done in the past on other cars, as in the 40s and 50s. Pretty big blowerfor 12V, but, who knows. PJ |

Does the chassis have lightening holes or is it bolt on strengthening in the last photo? Ray |
Ray Lee |
The chassis has lightening holes, as seen in several photos, and they are mentioned in the description. I wonder how long the holes took to drill or bore out, and how much difference they made to the weight or performance. The last photo shows where a front wing is bolted to the chassis, and it overlaps some holes. The description states that the wheels are also lightened, but I cannot see where this has been done. |

The chassis has been turned into rectangular hole'd Swiss cheese. Bud |

So this might be the blower - seller says was removed long ago. Also, would you "race" with all the lights and hood in place. The frame is lightened for speed but not the rest of the car. Seats - lights - steel wheels .. what else. I see no reserve on car, so 3200 for this is not really that bad a deal. |

Note in the pic with the two men astride the car with top up. See how the horiz. lines of the windscreen top and the convertible top are not perfectly parallel? Clearly a sign of an unrestored car. That's how they all should be, with an occasional one that happened to get out the factory door with all that lining up. The heater fan blower my have just been to pump fresh air into the cockpit when all the weather gear was up. Or a heater was the only way to get his wife to go with him. |

The description states that the wheels are also lightened, but I cannot see where this has been done. I would guess that these guys, not being familiar with TD's think that the holes in the wheels were put there to lighten them. Gary |

You might be right - the early wheels did not have holes. However, I'm not convinced about the weight reduction! |

Note this is an early TD and it has a Temp gauge. Just like mine in the exact same place.. I know it was not factory, but nice to see it was out there. In looking closer at the blower, it does look to be open on the far end, so a system to increase air to the manifold is possible. |

The other oddity is the aluminum & rubber strips on the front guards. I've only ever seen this setup on TF's, never on a TD. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Maybe the holes are to get the frame to flex some, rather than being the foul handling inflexible thing it was spawned as? |
S Cole |
Forget the car for now... I want that shop ! Santa missed my I guess. |
M Grogan |
The car also has a central arm rest - I wonder where that came from, and if the car was raced with it in place. |
