MG TD TF 1500 - Heli-Coils
Do I order a 5/8 Heli-Coil for a 5/8 bolt? This is for one of my tractors, so please forgive for not applying this to our cars, but I know some of you fellas have used them and could give me an answer. I have a stripped out housing due to a loose bolt. Will a 5/8 Heli-Coil put them back as original? Been a long time since I ordered these and forgot the kit size for a specific bolt. Thanks in advance. PJ |

Paul, is 5/8 the diameter of the bolt, or the size of the wrench that fits it? Bud |

Bud, 5/8 is the size of the bolt shaft, takes a 15/16 wrench. I forgot if I have to order and oversize coil or if the right size is listed as a 5/8 coil. PJ |

You also need to specify the pitch of the thread. Jim B. |

You buy them by size you are repairing, Paul. McMaster-Carr has the following 5/8" sizes available in standard ones. I never knew there were so many different styles! Internal Thread Length Qty. P/N Cost 5/8"-11 0.625" 5 91732A394 10.85 5/8"-11 0.938" 1 91732A218 3.50 5/8"-11 1.250" 1 91732A395 3.56 5/8"-18 0.625" 1 91732A541 2.35 5/8"-18 0.938" 1 91732A238 3.50 I can't get the Columns right....but you can get the idea. Thanks Mike, I ordered a complete set with drill bit, tap insertion tools etc. Didn't realize that a lot of sets do not come with the appropriate drill bit. PJ |
