MG TD TF 1500 - Help - Rear Seal Article
Recently I saw an article about drilling an oil relief hole in what I believe was the rear cap. There was a write up and a diagram. Unfortunately I did not bookmark it. Can someone assist this feeble memory member of the BBS???? I am about to pull the engine and would like to review this area again. Thanks, Mort |

Google "drilling an oil relief hole in mg" and you will see several hits. |

Ed, I tried it and several variations, but found nothing. If you or anyone can locate an article please post the link here. Thanks, Mort |

I didn't see the article Mort, but I remember reading where it was suggested that the drain pipe on the rear cap be but off to allow the oil to drain back into the sump. The theory being that the oil would back up and some would seep out the rear of the scroll when the engine was shut down. I seem to recall also that it was recommended that either a drain hole be drilled or a "V" notch be done on the inside of the front of the sump when installing a lip seal to allow the pooled oil to drain back to the sump. |

Mort: You might try this source. Its primarily for an MGA but the data might be useful on the XPAG http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/en1.htm Particularly CS-XXX Some examples http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/care/csm/mg229.pdf http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/care/csm/mg212.pdf Also: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/of1.htm might be of some use. You may be thinking of the lip seal modification, which requires drilling a hole in the rear main cap to allow oil out of the seal area. |

Thank you gentlemen, This is the article I had remembered. It was for an MGA but I will look closely at this area when I open the engine. Mort http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/cs202d.htm |

Mort, I believe that your engine is still an XPAG. Right? This article refers to the engine of an MGA. I'm not sure that this is applicable. But, I could well be wrong. Bud |

Yes Bud mine is the original XPAG. As I mentioned above I knew it was for an MGA but there was some good information there. Mort |
