MG TD TF 1500 - Highly Unusual Radiator
Not British but, My son, who in closing his radiator business after 30 years, ran across a few photos of a very unusual radiator and I thought you fellas might want to have a look. It's from a Pre T series Ford. Unique to say the least, with the water pump mounted in the radiator, not on the engine. PJ![]() |

He restored this radiator to look like new, even modifying a new core to match the original. Not working on it continuously, it took a couple months to restore. No pictures of the car. PJ |

A lot of folks think the T was the first car that Ford Made. They actually made some interesting cars prior to the T. The T was the first mass produced car. The 1907 Touring is probably one of the nicer looking cars of that period. This could be from that car. ![]() |

I wonder how the water pump was closed off, how the water got in, or out, and how the impellor was driven ? |

My son said that the impeller was driven off the end of the crankshaft. How it was hooked up and other details on it's operation are beyond me. I just thought it was highly unusual and interesting. PJ |

Ford Pre T Rad with pump drive. $$$$$![]() |

Probably simpler than it looks - I wonder if any water actually goes down the two centre tubes. |

Found this article. Looks like in 1907 Ford changed from a gear water pump to a centrifugal pump. Says it was driven off the cam shaft. Given the location. There must have been a drive belt from the cam to the pump. http://www.mtfca.com/books/1907.htm Here is a picture of the motor. Ford model K six cylinder. So, water came in the top of the radiator from the engine and was picked up by the pump in the radiator and pumped around the cylinders. ![]() |
