MG TD TF 1500 - Hood Attachment TF
Gentlemen, I dug out my hood today to begin its resurrection. It was replaced with vinyl sometime back in the sixties and has been folded up since 1973. I noticed a fitting that is attached to the front side rail with no obvious purpose. Anyone know what this is for? Thanks, Dan ![]() |

Never saw that before Dan. Is there one mounted on the other side also? Maybe the Pictures are of both sides. Certainly an addition by someone....for what purpose escapes me. Mike TF-8257 |

No Mike, left side only. Tx, Dan |

Dan, That bracket is a 'foreigner' ! Not TF originally. I really enjoyed seeing the original beige/pinkish hue colour on parts of your hood. Re excess holes which are notoriously evident on the hood's frame, be alerted that their are small holes, correctly and originally on top of the hood bows to hold the webbing in straight line place. I seem to remember on one TF I restored, dutifully welding those holes up only to discover that they were the real deal ! Self tapping screws go through a double gusset layer of webbing and then into the holes. Cheers. Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

It's difficult to figure out ,, are both pieces bolted together? It seems like they are towards the front, near the windscreen,, might it be some sort of a mount for a side mirror ?? Steve |

Steve, The cup is riveted to the bracket and bent over the frame bar. I also considered a mirror (the second owner was a women), but it would be in an odd location with the hood in the down position. Dan |
