MG TD TF 1500 - Hood canvas
I have one broken strap that goes from front to back on my top. It is "rotten" and can't be repaired. What would be a good material to use to replace it with? I'll do both if I can find the right material. So far none of the local shops have anything that is strong and doesn't stretch. I thought about Rexine but I don't think it would hold up because it doesn't appear to be strong enough. Putting up the top bows is a real problem without the straps because the bows just want to flop around. Anyone have any ideas? Mark |

If I understand your meaning, what you are looking for is hood (top) webbing. Its sold over here by the likes of Brown & Gammons, so I imagine that Abingdon Spares may also be a source. Dave H |

Mr. Strang: If you're not too fussed about absolute originality in terms of colour, texture, exact thickness and/or width - you might consider automotive "seat belt webbing". It should have the necessary strength and durability. It can probably be obtained at an "outdoors-ey" type store by the roll or they may sell it off the roll in the length(s) you require? Seat belt webbing material may be available in many shades if you were to wander about a wrecking yard. |

Tie down strap material might be a good alternative. Close to the correct width. |

Mark, try an uphostery shop for furnitures. They use this type of straps for restoring old chairs. Ralph TD 19435 |
