MG TD TF 1500 - Horn push question ref 53 TD
According to the Lucas parts catalog horn push #31269 was only available for the 1953 MG TD. This was the horn push without the dipper switch. It appears that some 53 TDs have the later horn push used on the TF part #76205. Is the 53 horn push (#31269) available anywhere as a reproduction? Anyone have the 53 TD horn push they wish to sell? Thanks Tim TD26711 ![]() |

Do you have an old one? It could perhaps be repaired, Craig Seabrook used to do them. Otherwise, closest would be to use the later replacement TD switch with the small button and cut off the dipper lever. There are often dashes on ebay, look around there too. George |

I don't have the Lucas parts catalog but is #31269 the only one without the lever? The lever was switched out somewhere around TD 18883. My car (TD 19629) has the non lever one. TD 29539 has the same and I have never seen a TD with the TF horn button. |

Tim, You should be able to make one from parts of the push with the dipper switch (39262). In fact the main parts have the same Lucas part number: Horn Push 31269 31262 Button and cover 380737 380737 Contact mount or shell 380722 380722 Base insulating 380731 380731 Note: the muli spaces in this table have been removed, I am in contact with the webmaster about is problem John |

Chris, other horn pushes did not have the lever as well according to the catalog illustrations. But the Lucas 400E Master Parts Catalog just lists part#30269 for the 1953 MG TD. It's odd, the same catalog list the horn dipper switch (part #380191) for the 46 to 50 TD but does not list a part # for the 51 and 52 TDs. Tim TD26711 ![]() |

Thanks John. 31269 is what I'm looking for. George, I have been offered one. I'll check it out to see if it works. I've been a customer of Craig Seabrook's and I've been very please with the quality of his work. Regards Tim |

Tim: Probably just a typo. Later cars (late 1952) got the horn push without the lever as noted above. Since there really were no model years Lucas probably just called it 1953. This was a later catalog and i'll bet they no longer sold the earlier horn push by this time so you would have to adapt your car if you needed one. Most likely never happen as this is about the last part to break on the car. :-) |

I may have a spare one at home. I will check when I go home for turkey day. Forrest TD/C 22679 |

Forest, I got a one right away. Guess they aren't as rare as I thought. Thanks Tim |

I got mine on ebay but it was from a motocycle. I just have to remove the brace to fix it to the handle bar. Just look for "horn push" et get lucky. Laurent. |
