MG TD TF 1500 - How to remove glue from Moss top rear win
Whoever manufacturers the tops for Moss is lucky I don't live near them. They taped a piece of Stayfast over the rear top (hood) window to protect it. Good idea. But they used tape that left the glue on the window when I removed it. Anyone had experience with removing an adhesive from the plastic rear top window? I don't have any of the same plastic to experiment with. Thanks Tim TD12524 ![]() |

I would call Moss before trying anything. That way if it does not clean up or it is damaged trying they will make good on it. The Stayfast tops used to be made in Moss's own upholstery shop. George |

Thanks guys. Good idea George. I'd be worried about WD40 and Goo staining he top. Maybe an alcohol based product. Regards Tim TD12524 |

WD40 is suggested for cleaning marks from carpets. I also have used it on alloy, plastic, and glass. Just spray some on a cloth and use on a small area. I also use Methylated Spirit for cleaning jobs Alan |

If you haven't installed it yet I'd tell Moss to send you another. |

Plain old Crisco (or other brand) shortening gets the adhesive off without any danger to the window material. Cheers - Dave |

Send it back. Makes me wonder if it wasn't a return in the first place. My top required me to trim the window as well as the windows in the side curtains. |

Thanks everyone. At the suggestion of Moss I used rubbing alcohol to remove the adhesive. I wanted to follow their method in case the window got damaged I could fall back on Moss for a remedy. I had already installed the top and I had left the protective cloth over the rear window until I was completely finished with the install. The top could have been sitting in a distributor's garage or warehouse for a couple of years. The Moss rep said, to his knowledge, they had not received any other complaints about the adhesive issue. Thanks again everyone for taking the time to reply.

Light mineral oil is great for removing upholstery glue from fabric, carpets and leather but only whilst it is still wet. The glue forms small balls and can be flicked off. You need to use soap and water to remove the oil though! Jan T |

I know you already have the glue cleaned off but for future reference lighter fluid is great for cleaning all sorts of stains and glues without damaging delicate materials. |

Tim, Make sure you have used clean water to remove any traces of the alcohol. Jim |
