MG TD TF 1500 - How to use the blasted archives ...
I’ve been a member of this forum since 1998 and have on a couple of occasions tried to use the archives, but never successfully.
So today, I decided to check the archives for “electric fan” in 2019 and 2020. So I ... A) go to the archives section B) enter ‘electric fan’ in the window C) select the ‘this phrase’ option D) then select 2019 and 2020 using the control function ^ Up comes dozens, if not hundreds, of results. Checking a few, not one of them contained the phrase ‘electric fan’. So I narrowed it to just a single year with the same results. What am I doing wrong? Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Gord Yeah, it's a bit of a mystery box at times Just had a go-- From this TD-TF section -- Archives Don't enter a year, just archives "electric fan" This phrase and they'll come up, there's a bit under- cooling engine engine fan etc Sounds like that 7 fin plastic MGB fan is the go without having the hassle of mounting up and wiring an electric one willy |

Easy, Gord. Choosing a year will show you all of the threads for that year. Choosing to look for some specific text will show you that text for ALL years. You get used to after a while. it's been that way since the last century. We're just old timers. Image from 2014 GOF Bud

I believe when you click a year, it shows all threads in that year, not an actual search result. When you search, it runs a search on all years and displays matching results. I typed "electric fan" into the search box with "this phrase" selected and got about 110 results which seems about right. |

Gord.
I had a 54 MG-TF for many years without an extra fan. I hve had zero overheating problems..And that is in sunny florida. I made certain to drillout the two little holes behind the two plugs. Also when I had the head off I ran an old speedo cable on an electric drill to clean out all the passages. I found a lot of very hard material at the bottom of the holes at the rear of the block. I actually had to punch and probe the bottom on the jacket to free accuulated ^^^^^^^???. As for me I would not install an extra electric fan. Sandy |

Many thanks, all. It works. Shows what happens when one tries to make it unnecessarily complicated Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

I never plug in a year and just enter the key words and click "all of these words" which usually fetches a long laundry list of topics that have those words mixed in. |
