MG TD TF 1500 - I need someones help

I am going to sell my 1953 MG TD now. Unfortunately, I have lost one of the long rubber stripes on the stepboard. All the shops say I have to buy all six, including the metals, in a package.
I wonder if someone has a single rubber xxx that they can sell me.
Raymond Wardenaer

Raymond.

I do not know about Norway but years ago the same strip was for sale by the foot to be applied as bump strips on American cars that came from the factory with smooth sides. Perhaps a really old parts house might still have some in the back room. Good luck.

You don't remember the name of the company?

Try Woolies in UK
L.A. Leclerc

L.A. Leclerc, thank you for that tip. They told me they had something very close, but I am a bit uncertain about the dímensions. I could ask them to send me one, since they are very cheap.
Raymond Wardenaer

Hi Ray,
I bought my rubber from Wollies and whilst it's not identical to the original it is very close, if anyone spots the different section I'd be very surprised.
Cliff Harvey

Cliff, how did you get the rubber into the aluminium thread?
Raymond Wardenaer

Raymond,
To set the rubber, first engage one side in the aluminum strip, then with a wood or plastic tip (like a putty knife or strip of wood, work the other side down and under the opposite side of the aluminum - just a short bit at a time. A little liquid soap or KY jelly to lubricate won't hurt and will aid in the fitting.
readlist

Readlist, that was how I thought I would have to do it, but last time I tried I had difficulties. But thank you, I shall try when I get the rubber bit. I am on track to that now.
Raymond Wardenaer

As Ray suggested.

Might want to heat up the "rubber" in some hot water first to make it more plyable,,,

I found that when I had to replace one of the original rubbers the new rubber refused to completely seat into the old strip in spite of using both of the techniques suggested above. Others here have found that the new rubber however does appear to be compatible with the new aluminium strip. You may well experience the same problem Ray. Cheers
