MG TD TF 1500 - ID Plates

My '52TD is missing all the ID plates except for the engine. I know all the numbers and want to get replacement plates stamped in the "correct" manner. Anyone known to provide that service?

From The Frame Up. They have the plates, and will stamp them for you.

Be sure you verify the chassis number from the chassis stamping.

Is it legal to get new ID plates made up. In the UK, without full proof of identity and date of manufacture a rebuilt car would be regarded as a special and given a Q registration. This would affect taxation categories and the need for a road worthiness certificate.

Yes its legal as long as its correct and not an attempt to misrepresent the vehicle.

The MOT inspector in the UK will not go by the plate.
Dave Williams who posted on this site during a full rebuild had to scrape back the dumb iron to prove the identity. I also had to show on inspector where it was when I changed garages.

And yet a TD that a UK friend bought on US eBay came with papers for a completely different car, and nobody noticed - it was brought into the UK without a hitch, and nobody even verified the Guarantee plate numbers, much less the chassis stamping...

Do any of the FTFU purchasers know if leading characters are etched or stamped as in the picture attached?

There is only so much they can do on this without huge inventories. I think a trophy shop can etch the other parts of the plates (the /, EXL/NA, TD2/) for you before it gets stamped.

It's on my To Do list. But then it will probably have to be re-nickled.
