MG TD TF 1500 - Ignition Key number - TF
Did the key surround on the TF show the key number. I have just realised it is shown on the late TDII, but not on my TF 1500 made a year later. It is possible that it has been replaced by a later item, but it would be nice to know what was there originally. |

Thanks, Lonnie, I suspected that it might be a replacement; now I know! |

Yup key code should be in barrel mask @LonnieCook... Best not cut & paste page link like that, afaik your personal ID code is part of it... hacker can use it to spoof your participation. |

Not versed on hackers, but I found that the link will not be valid if the archived thread is reactivated. Guess that I will need to post a quote from an archived thread so that viewers can search the "phrase" in the archives and so that it can be found in the future even if the thread was reactivated which changed the URL. I hope you guys know how much I appreciate and treasure the wealth of knowledge that has been posted on this forum. But I sure wish that it were more user friendly and "search" friendly. Hate to see the information lost or unused because it is so hard to find or to share. Lonnie TF7211 |

Lonnie, what if all the "regulars" agreed to pitch $10, $20 or whatever to the webmaster? Would that be enough to have the search facility upgraded without overcomplicating the ease of use for what we mostly do? Just pondering. I always try to remember that among the three scariest words (e.g. the G&B site) are "new and improved." Jud |

I've pulled a few switches apart now & am yet to find a code inside in the barrel. The key code is always on the lock face. TC & early TD MRN # 1 to 50, later TD is FA. Replacements with the window were FP & I'm not sure where the FS came in or what was originally fitted to TF's. This info is in the archive somewhere, posted by Lew I think. Original keys were Wilmot Breeden Union round heads. I'm also a big fan of this forum but I do waste a lot of time stumbling through the archive. Lonnie, just clicked on the link you posted & it has been removed. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Jud - I would contribute to an upgraded search and thread storage system. Seems like a pretty daunting process to revamp the BBS without losing posts. Yes - "new and improved" could be a disaster. Lonnie TF7211 |

Peter - The archived thread that I linked in my post was "Cutting a New Key." It was reactivated after I posted the link, so it is no longer in the archives. That's why you received the error message, "This thread has been removed" That's also why I wrote my second post in this thread saying that references to archived threads should be written as a phrase that is in the archived thread instead of the URL of the thread. The reader must then search "this phrase" in the archives to read the information. Otherwise, the link may be dead to future readers if the thread has been reactivated. Lonnie TF7211 |
