MG TD TF 1500 - IGNITION LIGHT REMOVAL
How does one remove the entire assembly from the dash? The bezel unscrews readily, then what? Thanks Morris |

First attached picture is of the back of the lamp assembly. As you may be able to see the lamp housings are held in place by C-Springs that compress a helical spring. Removing the C-Spring and any attached wires will allow you to remove the assembly. Be careful. If the wire holding assembly with the nut spins you can break the resistance wire that is wound around the housing. (another pix to follow. Jim B. ![]() |

This picture gives a breakdown of most of the parts of the assembly. You can see the resistance wire which has been unwound. Jim B. ![]() |

Hi Morris Jim's pictures are pretty clear. Looks like you are really getting into it. Hopefully we can meet up again, in our cars. Staying pretty close to home right now. Brian Smith |

Jim, thank you that is very clear. Bud I did review both the ignition light picture and all the pictures of the ignition switch. I thought I had solved my short earlier this year but when I reinstalled the dash the short came back. I do note that in the pictures there is what looks like a piece of insulation attached to the back center post of the ignition switch. I am not sure what it is protecting specifically but the post for the "D" wire is very close and my switch does not have the same piece. I am trying to fix the wiring without completely removing the dash. Maybe this approach is a lost cause. Brian, I had hoped to take a run up to see you this summer in the MGA but haying and dental surgery kept me near home and now it has been pouring rain most of Oct. Both the A & TD are running beautifully but the TD is not charging enough to go any great distance. Thanks again everybody Morris |
