MG TD TF 1500 - Indicators

We had a blown L/H tail light globe which was making the L/H indicators flicker, no clicking sound, and no dash light flashing. After replacing the globe, and mucking around with both tail light globes, neither indicator is working now. We get 1 flash on the dashboard light, and the indicators flicker without any clicking noise. Fuses are ok. Can you please give me some pointers on what might be the problem.

I have had another play with it, and the L/H indicator is working properly, but the R/H is blinking quickly, no clicking noise, and no dash light flashing.

Often when one rear light flashes fast you will find the front light is not working.

Hi Don, the front indicator light is flashing quickly as well as the back tail light on the R/H side. No clicking noise or dash light flashing when R/H side indicator is switched on. Both tail lights work when the brakes are pressed and also when the lights are switched on. It is only the indicators on the R/H side that are playing up.

Maybe a poor earth in the system. Have a long earthed wire and try and earth various parts of the indicator system, if I remember they earth through the light bodies themselves. Don

The blinker is current sensitive.
On some sockets, the ones with bulb pins in line, it’s possible to insert the bulb backwards. I know the fronts can be this way.
If so the light will flash faster.

Check the contacts for dirt or oxide inside the turn signal relay (the Lucas DB10). If when you energize the turn signals, if the contacts are not making a good connection, you can get intermittent operation.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I took it to an Auto Electrician today and there was a broken wire to the L/H tail light which was causing a short and impacted the flasher unit. All fixed now.
