MG TD TF 1500 - Interior trim colour TF

Is there any way I can find out the original colour of my interior trim when it was originally built. Believe it could have been either red or green. Plate details - HDP26/8958 engine number XPEG / 2280.

Hi John.
From your car details ,your car was originally Ivory, so yes the trim would have been either Red or Green.
Sorry , but I don't know of a way to tell which yours would have been.
Cheers.

John, my car had it's original trim in when I got it but there may be bits of the old trim on yours hidden around the rear of the cockpit, some old piping or similar. Has yours been retrimmed? Mine is also HDP26/4887, Ivory.

I think your best chance would be to see if you can spot a trace of red or green paint in a scratch or chip on either side of the dash panel or under the crash pad support (assuming the car was never resprayed those colours).

Sorry Don, we posted almost together. Yes, trim pieces too.

If you apply and pay for a British Motor Heritage Certificate(UK), it will indicate and confirm the interior colour of your TF. Should be Red or Green.

Thanks Rod I will contact British Motor Heritage.
To Matthew, Ralph & Don. The car had been resprayed when I purchase it in 1969 first the original ivory, then black And finally the hot favourite of the period BRG. I stripped down the last two colours to its original ivory then resprayed in ivory. Plus all the interior trim had been replaced in black a some point. No clue as to the original trim colour remains anywhere.

John: As Matthew points out sometimes there is some ghost of the interior color just behind the dash on the scuttle. Most likely this would not have been resprayed unless they took the dash out first. Even then you could use some lacquer thinner and wipe it down in a few areas until you got to the metal to see if you had green or red.
