MG TD TF 1500 - Intermotor Brand Point Sets

I have used Intermotor brand points and condensers before in the MGB and never had a problem. Made in Nottingham, I would assume they're much better made than the (Premium) Chinese stuff we get anymore. I want to get a couple of sets for the TF, what do you think? PJ

Points are not usually a product we see in good/better/best terms, especially since Lucas parts seem to be India-made, and supplied in a Lucas box. Some might not align 100% properly, but that is a minor issue, easily corrected with slight bending.

I would use any points you can find. Condensers are another matter entirely...

Tom, I have a couple of their condensers also, still new in a box. I know the one in the 72 B was in it for 7 years before I sold the car. The condenser box says made in Nottingham also. ??

In UK at least Lucas aint really Lucas any more (ELTA Automotive Ltd) and Intermotor is part of Standard Motor Products Europe Ltd.

No problem.

We in the UK are like you in USA our manufacturers and now often just importers, and the cracks are now beginning to really show.

I bought an Elta sports coil and it appeared more cheaply made than the Lucas or Intermotor one (I can't remember which now) that it replaced.

Some Intermotor parts may be OK I don't know as the NOS Intermotor parts I've had go back prior to 2001 when the company name was changed.

All on public record, see here. - https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/00955888/filing-history?page=5

Older Intermotor stuff was good. No idea about the modern stuff.

If you want the best points and condensers, order from Martin Jay at Distributor Doctor in the UK. Far superior to the "Lucas" junk being sold these days and are built to original specification. Rob Medynski at British Vacuum Unit also sells good stuff in the USA. He's the other seller that I would buy condensers from other than Martin.
