MG TD TF 1500 - Jack
What is the original TF jack like? I have several bottle jacks but don't know which one I should use. Is it stored in the tool box under the bonnet and where does the turning rod fit. Is the starting handle used for this? I have a hydraulic one that fits in the tool box and am tempted to carry this one since it has an extendable leaver. Also what is the wheel nut spanner like? Either a King Dick or a Shelley Jan. See pics below of an original King Dick that is part of a one owner TF kit. Stored in the tool box, it has its own two piece handle. See pics showing each end. I take it you have the steel pressed wheels? See pic. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

Unable to upload a pic of the wheel brace however it is a right angled tool & comes in two sizes, one for the original TD BSF nuts & the other for the later UNF ones. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

This is the King Dick above showing the back of the jack. Both the Shelley & King Dick were referred to as "bow tie" jacks & had the saddle type jacking point illustrated here. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

Pic shows a wheel brace "lug wrench" in Americanese. The other tools appear to be original to the TD/TF except for the spanner beside the wheel brace. Source of pic is unknown. Cheers Peter TD 5801 ![]() |

My TF came with a Shelly jack and looks very much like a King Dick without the King Dick writing on the side. Fortunately the Tommy bar and duel extension handle are intact. The jacks look like they were cast by the same foundry. PJ![]() |

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have found the correct jack but the balls in the thrust bearing are long since gone. I thought I would anger the purists and buy a simple hydraulic bottle jack but the ones I found on line are too wide for the tool box. Irrespective of manufacturer, supplier or even lift capacity they all appear to have the same body casting! I then thought I would try to buy a good condition screw bottle jack. Have you seen the prices!!!! I have now bought a new bearing for £2 including postage. Many thanks Jan T |

JAN, If you do purchase another jack, make sure that it will fit and be able to jack up your car when it has a flat!!! I have seen some that will not do this as they are too tall. SPW |

Jan What you need is Steve Gyles of the MGA Register's British car jack database. Very comprehensive. http://www.classic-british-car-jacks.uk David |
