MG TD TF 1500 - Labelling wires

I just finished a project on my "new" TD which required me to label some wires. Over the many years, I have tried several methods of labelling wires. I have not been happy with any of the methods I've tried. The labels fall off, fade over time, dry and become brittle, etc. Post Its are useless.
I'd be interested if anyone has a good simple method to label wires.
Thanks

I used a Brother's label maker I purchased from Staples. It was on sale 50% off. I think it was 15 dollars.

Neat and easy to read since my handwriting is equivalent to Egyptian hieroglyphics if I used masking tape and a felt tip marker. Durable laminated tape and it stays put and won't come off when you're pulling wires through the grommets and between the pedal box. Once you are done, you can use a pen knife to carefully "prick" the tape to remove it.

One downside is peeling the tape to expose the sticky backing. It can be a little fussy but a pen knife also comes in handy for that too. Also, it takes a little longer to type each wire label than handwriting each one but it made my wire installation much easier for me and confident where each wire goes to.

Simple like you asked.... probably not but it check all the other boxes you're looking for.

Home Depot has a label maker especially for labeling electrical cables. I think it is a Brother brand. Tape is not inexpensive, but I've never had one fall off.

I used short sections of coloured heat shrink. Using five different colours & changing the sequence gives you lots of options. Just do each end on the wires.

You can even use the original colour code - first ring from the end is the main colour & second ring is the trace colour.

I too have a Brother label maker. It has a special setting just for making wiring labels! There is a trick to removing the backing. Forget the pen knife. Just fold the label lengthwise and it will easily split open for you.

I am curious. What is the special setting on your Brother label printer? What does the special setting do?

Milton, the setting prints the words you type twice with a seperator in between them. When you fold the label over the wire on that spot you can read both sides of the label easily. There is also a setting to do a "wire wrap" rather than a label. And you can change fonts, text sizes, and all kinds of easy tricks. You can even preview the results on a little screen before wasting tape. Got mine at Home Depot as well for about $35 bucks.

We have a lable maker by DYMO, similar to the HD one, it makes lables in various colors or clear. folded around a wire you have to cut it off to remove it. Lable tape for it is also a little pricey, but the lables will stick to anything, even fingers! PJ
