MG TD TF 1500 - Lamp for TF Front park/turn lights

What is the correct bulb/lamp for the above.

Mine has bulb with "lugs" equidistant from base and can be put in wron.

Is lamp supposed to have offset "lugs" like the 1157 at the back?

They do the same job. Both are 5W/21W.

I guess I need to take my better glasses to the garage and examine the socket.

Thanks.

Peter - I don't remember the exact for the 1157 with equal distance for both locating lugs, but I have run into that problem. You can change the socket and get the 1157 that has staggered lugs, or just live with what you have and realize that you are going to have to check that the bulb is in the correct orientation every time you replace the bulb. I think it depends if your car has turn signals or not. Non turn signal cars have single filament bulbs in the front fender lamps and the lugs would be equal distance from the bottom of the socket. Turn signal cars use sockets and bulbs more like those used in the rear.

OK, thanks everybody, looked at it closely today, it has double contact socket. I have turn signals, and they work!

"lugs" are equidistant, just needs me to insert it correctly.

Would like to go LED, just have to find the 1142 version that is 5W/21W equivalent, 1157 is for the back and has staggered lugs.

Part way through positive to negative earth conversion, after that I look for lamps, probably a new flasher too.

TDs with blinkers use parallel pin, dual filament bulbs in the front wing lamps. I have seen replacement sockets with staggered pin sockets for the front also. Correct is parallel pin (1142 base) Abingdon Spares now carries positive ground LEDs for front wing lamps in parallel pin base and positive ground red LEDs staggered pin (1157 base) for the rear running/stop/turn signal lamp. No need to switch to negative ground! abingdonspares.com

I though I had Off Set pin bulbs in the front - same as in the rear - White double filament bulbs.

After double checking the socket in the front they are for parallel pins bulbs as sold at Abingdon Spares as stated above - white/Amber and yes - you can put them in wrong - Winkers may not work correctly if you do. At least that's with incandescent bulbs. Don't know about LED's yet.

Not a problem if you know this and test after changing the bulb.

Just ordered my set and the new flasher that is also required.

As I am going -VE earth I ordered from the UK, about $25 for the pair.

No need to go to the UK for TD, TC, TB, and Y type LED inserts. See www.brittrix.com

That, of course, is for tail lamps. The local auto parts stores have LED bulbs and positive ground or polarity neutral ones are uncommon, but available.
