MG TD TF 1500 - Late TD Oil Filter Adapter
Hello. I was looking for a late TD spin-on oil filter adapter for my wife's car as a Christmas present (not her only gift :-) ). Would like to find one made of steel for durability if possible. I thought Bob Grunau and possibly Butch Taras made them, but neither have responded to my emails. Does anyone know of a quality oil filter adapter made in steel? Thanks for any help. Regards, Bill. ![]() |

Good day Bill. Mine are made from aluminum with a steel threaded portion. I can make it from steel, but, you don't want to pay the price for the extra time to cut the steel. Butch |

Thanks Butch, appreciate the response. Would rather buy from the MG community than India. Will send you an email. |

Aluminium will be fine for the body - there's no real load on it. David |

Aluminum does not rust. Jim |

Jim and David, thanks for the replies. |

I seem to recall that I had to quickly get a coat of paint on my adapter from Bob Grunau because of the presence of rust. I think Bob's are/were steel. I'll dig out a magnet and go check it out. http://www.ttalk.info/Oil_filter.htm Bud |

Ferro-magnetic, indeed. Magnet stands on end. Bud |

Thanks, Bud. I heard his were steel and they should have very robust mating surfaces. No problem painting the adapter as needed to prevent surface rust like the original oil filter canister and everything else on the engine. Trying to teach my wife how to maintain her car and the spin-on adapter should help.
