MG TD TF 1500 - Lazarus makes YouTube

See http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/In_the_movies.htm
Lazarus, my 52TD, was used in the PBS movie 'Transistorized'. I just discovered that 'Transistorized' is on YouTube under the title 'Transistor Full Documentary'. Two scenes, 29:54 and 44:19.

Just had to share it. Bud

Cool.

Did he actually have a TD IRL?
Christopher Couper

Not likely. It's more likely that he had a TC. But I had the only T-car that would make itself available for being used in a movie. My fee was to be listed in the credits. Bud

I think you are correct:

"William Shockley was extremely agitated. Speeding through the frosty hills west of Newark on the morning of December 23, 1947, he hardly noticed the few vehicles on the narrow country road leading to Bell Telephone Laboratories. His mind was on other matters.

Arriving just after seven, Shockley parked his MG convertible in the company lot..."

Brilliant Bud ! I love what looks like the correct colour of your MG Red TD .
A well balanced car on the road.

I have to also say that your informative, constructive and assisting comments over the years have been appreciated by many.

December 1947. Has to be a TC or perhaps even a TA or TB. No way it could be a TD as they didn't appear in England until late 1949 and it would have been very early 1950 before the first TD was unloaded in the States surely? Interesting read Chris. Makes me want to see the doco. Cheers

Engineers on both coasts of the US were early adopters of the MGTC. As soon as they showed up demand went nuts and hence the TD was built to supply the demand with a bit more updated car.

My father was an engineer at Hughes Aircraft in Culver City (LA) and later in the mid 50's we moved to a new plant in Fullerton, CA. There were TD's everywhere in the company parking lots, including ours.

Lazarus has stepped in twice where a TC should have been. Transistorized was his first role. The second was on February 1, 2016, when he played the role of the TC that had been used in the movie 'Love Stories'. Feb 2016 was the 40th anniversary of the movie staring Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal. They were coming to Cambridge MA for the anniversary. A publicist thought that it would great if Ryan could show up in the TC that he drove in the movie. To shorten the long story, let me simply say that Lazarus was the only T-car that was readily available, on short notice, on the First of February. The original TC was still available. My demands were a pair of tickets to the opening of 'Love Letters' and telling Ryan that I'd kick his butt if he ground the gears. Ryan and Ali were great, down-to-earth folks. Here they are, arriving in Harvard Yard in Lazarus; Bud

I'll bet they enjoyed the TD ride far more compared to the pre war designed TC !!
