MG TD TF 1500 - LED tail lights
Does anyone know a source for bright LED replacement tail lights for a TD with positive ground? If available, does this require a change in the turn signal device? Thanks, Bill Chandler |

Bill, I sent you an email directly regarding a source and an alternative. You don't necessarily require a change in the flasher unit. That depends upon the current drawn by other turn signal bulbs. If you are running incandescent bulbs in the front side marker lights, this is often enough to allow you to keep the existing flasher. If, however, they blink slowly or not at all with the LEDs at the rear, then you should upgrade to the electronic flasher. But be careful there, as the electronic flashers use a different pin-out configuration. Do not connect them as a direct replacement. Read the instructions or note the markings on the flasher itself. Minor wiring changes are required. For those interested, I do LED inserts for the ST38 Triple-M (Pork Pie) , ST51 (D-Lamp) TA, TB, TC, and Y-type, and the 288 as used on MG VA, SA, WA, and various Jaguars, Triumph Roadsters, etc. ST38s and ST51s are $99 per pair. 288s are $160 per pair. Shipping extra. |

Bill, I have not gone the LED route, but there are a few threads in the Archives that might help you,, I searched for LED TAIL LIGHTS and cam up with quite a few,,, these are just a couple http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=2006041403322518099 http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=41721752800099&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=2011022223595923180 http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&access=41721752800099&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=2010050817200526762 Hope this helps, Steve |

I have LED lights positive ground and they work fine and I did not change my flasher. I think Brian MCCoulok of BMC british motors carries them |

Lite Zzupp is another source for the Positive ground lights. I have them in my TF with incandescent lights in the front turn signals and did not need to change the flasher. http://litezupp.com/ Rick |

Try these guys. Very knowledgeable and easy to do business with. http://www.classiccarleds.co.uk They have a combination white and amber bulb suitable to replace the white side/flasher combination bulb in my TF that is on order now. Slots right in as a replacement. I have also bought from Litezupp before - again good to do business with. As Lew said you may only have to replace the flasher unit if you swap all the bulbs on the circuit...but if you do the flasher units from ClassicCarLeds are only £10.. Dave |

Is the tail light on the 1953 TD (round tail light) a #1157? |

litezupp work very well. The only problem I had was making better ground connections. They draw little juice thru the connections. And I'm thinking less problems with the brake switch. |
