MG TD TF 1500 - License/registration plate question.
Anyone know what shape and color a British license plate would have been on a car registered in England in 1951? Thanks Tim TD12524 |

See tippersvintageplates.co.uk Most common were pressed aluminium plates. Dave H |

Not certain but I think they were the same in 1953 https://insidedvla.blog.gov.uk/2015/11/17/whats-the-story-with-black-and-silver-number-plates/ ![]() |

I think for the rear there were more square plates with letters on top of numbers. Plates of that era would be black I believe. |

Its all on the website I gave above. Nearly all plates at the front were oblong, but at the rear were oblong or square. Digits were 3 1/2" high (reduced from '64). Pressed auminium plates were the most common (least expensive), but the so called Gothic aluminium raised character plates were also permitted. Dave H |

I have what I believe is the original plate for my '49 TC. Is there anyway to find out the history/owner of this plate/car? Mark |
