MG TD TF 1500 - Lift A Dot Pegs original position

Dear Friends,

Can you help me please, I need the original position of the holes. I would like to drill them to the original position.

Chances are - every MG will be a little different as they were hand built.
However - that said, this Moss motors hand out for their full Tonneau may help you decide where the correct LTD fasteners should go.

Tamas,
If the TF was like the TD, there was no factory supplied full tonneau. The factory only supplied a half tonneau.
Full tonneau installations therefore varied from installer to installer. The positions of the snaps was not universal.
Perhaps the best guide is as linked above by Rod.
Cheers!!!

LTD's #4A are not necessary if the tonneau is carefully tailored by cutting darts over those positions.

Egads. You don't need any near the amount of LTD studs they show.

Stick with what you have in the back and one at the top of the seat backs at the corner of the cover where it has a seem. Then you will need one stud or snap at the lower apex of the door flap (note this does not go on the door, but rather behind the door on the body.

As Matthew says you may not need the 4a on the drivers side. My car has them but they are off center towards the outside. You can put it (or perhaps two equally spaced) on the passenger side because you might drive at speed with just the passenger side covered.

When you put on your cover start at the back and get that all nice and tidy. Then go to the center front and secure those two. Pay attention that the seam lines up with the front lip of the scuttle/dash. Then work your way outward, pulling it taught as you mark the stud locations. Do one stud at a time for best results and keep putting the cover back in place each time.

Also when you do the back make sure you stretch it out enough so the studs take the tension and not the corner of the body. This way the cover will not ride up in the corners. This is why lots of people put in more studs than needed because they did not fit it properly to begin with.

And along the front flap I like to center the LTD studs but that is your choice. I just think it looks better to have equal spacing from the edge to the lip seam.

On TD4834. I have three across the back ( one dead center and the others about 2" outboard of the tire rack mounting) , two on the rear quarters ( just ahead of the tack strip and ot the "B" pillar, one at the front of the door, one on each side of the scuttle humps You do not need one at the top of the scuttle humps. A consideration would be if your plan on placing Brooklands aero screens on the scuttle. The full tonneau will work with the post mounted screens but needs som thought when using the plinth mountings.

Bill: Rod Brayshaw pointed out to us neophytes that the original cars only had two LTD studs in the back. There was no center stud. Later I dug up some pictures and found out why. It turns out the tonneau in the back went up to clear the tire rack and then never went back down again. (see attached brochure)

Almost every tonneau cover made after the factory ones goes up for the tire rack and then back down again to the same height as the ends, so a middle stud makes sense.

So I would suspect most cars, mine included, have a center stud today.

That's an interesting fact Chris. My car had a full tonneau fitted tso obviously the extra fixings are present. I've noted in some pics I've archived for reference that there were snaps/LTDs placed directly on either side of each tire rack mounting flange for a total of four points on the back panel. This answers the non original tonneau detail.
Mine has two sets of holes for snaps/LTDs placed just behind the B pillar. Thinking one was for the original half tonneau and the others added for the full tonneau. However two of those appear to have never had a screw run in them. Wondering were all the tubs pre
drilled for the half tonneaus. Of note is the fact that I do not have the tonneau bar behind the seat and no indication that it ever had one after inspection in preparation for new upholstery

Cheers
