MG TD TF 1500 - Little help needed - CLIP PLATE TONNEAU COVER
Next weekend the first trip with a longer distance will go from Nuremberg to Weimar and Erfurt. The weather forecast says cold and maybe rainy. So I'd looked the first time how to prepare the side curtains. The pre owner never used ist. So I'd looked into the manual and saw, that the side curtains can be fixed with a loop inside the car. But this loop is absent. I decided to fix the curtain outside with a clip plate. I'd found 3 of the clips in a box which was a give away from the PO. At this point I need little help because I couldn't find a store - except in Australia - where to buy such clips. I need 1 - better will be 5. Next week my daughter is in LA. A supplier can send to the hotel so I can get it fast and easy. Where can I purchase? ![]() |

That's a "Lift-the-dot" clip and fastener. Moss sells them as part number 226-308, I'm sure Abington also sells the parts (as well as many other suppliers) since they're used quite frequently on tonneau covers and similar items. Roy |

Bela - Using a 'Lift the Dot' to secure the side curtain flap seems to me to be a rather cumbersome way to secure the flap. It would be better to have a strap sewn onto the and use a gripper snap and the corresponding piece on the inside of the door (see picture). Cheers - Dave

Bela, I have loads of them! How many do you want? I could pop them in the post this afternoon if you want. PS I prefer Tenax rather than lift the dot. If you have a local "Bauhaus" DIY with a nautical dept. they usually have such fasteners on stock. Regards Declan |

Bela, I would strongly recommend the option described by Dave. As far as I know this was the original fitting, and it does not require drilling the door outer skin for the lift-the-dot pegs. Moreover, you can release the sidescreen flap from the inside if required for some hand sign. Then, in the inside, you can use a much more common "snap fastener" (or "durable dot fastener"). You can find locally this fastener in many variants searching in German for DRUCKKNOPF. Jesus |

Bela, I agree with both Declan and Jesus. Try to find Tenax lift-the-dot and fix it inside the door. Or else, drive without the side curtains. It does not make a big difference. You will get wet anyways.... Claude |

We have driven our TD in weather that dictated the use of the side curtains, but I never added that strap snap, and never found that it was necessary. Steve |

I forgot to mention that you can get the Tenay fasteners at Anglo-Parts. com They usually deliver within 3-4 days. CLAUDE |

Thank you Declan, I need 5 pieces (lift-the-dot) - you will get an email. @ all The lift-the-dot pegs have been established by the pre owner but nothing is inside at the door and there are no loops on the vinyl curtains. So it was the easiest way to set the clips and to fasten the curtain in this manner. |

Bela, it would probably not be worth the postage from South Carolina, USA, to Germany but I'd be glad to send you a handful. Moss has a special tool for installing these but it's danged expensive and I've heard not too good. Jud ps: Not to beat a dead horse and I understand that you are working with what the PO left you but I agree with others that a simple snap as shown by Dave is the way to go ![]() |

Bela, I posted them to you yesterday. They will be OK for a temporary solution. Regards Declan |
