MG TD TF 1500 - Local car here in Phila for sale...

So.. you think the price is right? I don't know the owner but I was approached by a mutual friend to evaluate the car for the owner, but in the end the owner never contacted me, so I haven't had a good look at the car. I'm not interested in buying it, mind you - I like mine and I've got far too many cars now - but just curious what you guys think.

My opinion is: too high by $8-10,000. I see nicer, better, more accurately-restored TDs NOT SELLING for $26,000. These days you can take your pick, there are so many TDs for sale...

Hard to tell from the photos but I'd say this... It's cheaper than you could restore one to that condition for, but priced above market value. You could get one in the same condition cheaper.

Looks nice, though not to my taste. I suspect it is about $5K over priced. Not fully restored...lacking windscreen wipers and motor.

If that car is worth $22,500 mine is worth $30,000.

I would put this in the Hagerty #2 category. 2 is listed at $28,700 and 3 at $16,000. So this is in the ballpark of that gauge, but as mentioned, market for TD's is a buyers market currently.

Other items I see that could easily be changed to make this even better include: Paint the valve cover the correct color. Nickle plate the ID number plates. put the wiper motor in.

Would need more pictures to tell any more.

Yeah, I thought it was overpriced as well. When I get back to Phila (I'm at my lake house now) I'll see if I can go see it, just for curiosity sake.

I know what this one sold for a few years ago. Rated as a high number 2 by a Classic car article. Not a number 1 only because it had been driven some after the restoration. 27 grand. The one in question looks about a 15 grand car in my opinion...but that's just me.

However this one sold for 18 grand at the same auction.

It had more faults than the California coast line...so go figure.

Friends with good intentions and sentimental value of the family seems to over price a vehicle at times. Not that they are trying to fleece the public, but they just don't know the market value of a vehicle in that condition. Hard to buy anything at a reasonable price with sentimental value attached. Someone in the know needs to appraise this car for them. Just sayin. PJ

It takes a lot more photos to narrow down an opinion of value - especially more of engine and of the underside.

From what's there it looks alright, not top grade. $ 25,500 is a top grade price and this one surely comes up short. How much short is hard to say without more photos.
