MG TD TF 1500 - Longstone Tyre Company

I sought advice from the forum a short while ago about tubes for the tyres on my TF. I found the hole in the wheel rim was a fair bit bigger than the tube valve stem and there was a risk of the stem being cut and thus leaking. I visited a number of tyre "specialists" in Glasgow but they were of no help and some had never fitted a tubed tyre! Whilst at the NEC Classic Car Show last week I visited the Longstone Tyre Stand. They specialise in tyres for older cars and immediately could relate to my problem. Apparently the valve stems on older tubes were a bigger diameter than modern ones and older rims need to be bushed to take current tubes. I asked Longstone where I could get some bushes from and they said no problem they would send me some. No cost, no postage and a handful arrived today! Let's give credit where it is due. I know where my next set of tyres is coming from.

You know, business is not hard. You sell a good product and you treat your customers fairly. Loadstone is doing it the right way. They have a new customer and you praised their good service to thousands of forum members. Congrats to both of you.

I was very happy with my transaction with Longstone. I highly recommend them for T series owners in the States (well for anyone actually).

I order about half of my tires from Longstone, despite the ocean between them and I. Their prices are great and service top notch.

Another satisfied customer here.

I placed my order last May and four days later my mailman delivered the first three tires, and the next day the other two tires and tubes arrived. That is fast service from England.

Ordered my set of xzx's about a year ago. Price was great. Delivery was very fast. It has taken about a year to find someone who could properly install and balance them. Bud

For purests this looks like a good tyre.

Are these the 560 15 Camac cross ply tyres that Chris has posted info on? I don't wish to reignite the debate on cross ply v radials though or hijack this thread. Just curious - as it seems there are still quite a few BBS stalwarts who are happy with these Longstone cross plys and I wondered why? I know the geometry of the front end is designed for cross plays and so I'm keen to hear about the driving experience on these Longstones. Cheers

Hi Peter,

I was fortunate about two(2) years ago to purchase five(5) 5.90 x 15
Dunlop cross ply tyres for the TF1500 from Vintage Tyre Supplies (UK). They do not manufacture this size anymore in cross ply tyres. Of course originally the tyres were 5.50x 15.

I have always been very satisfied with cross ply tyres on all TFs I have owned. If the front end units are rebuilt well, problems don't seem to arise.

Cheers'
