MG TD TF 1500 - Longstone Tyre in UK
I was just getting ready to order a set of 165R15 Vredestein tires from Summit Racing, when I found I could get Michelins from Longstone for less money, and get Michelin tubes instead of Cokers besides. Has any body used them, or have any comments on them? Gary |

I've ordered from them more than once. Shipped to my door, I got tires cheaper than driving 40 miles to our local vintage tire supplier and buying in person! |

Thanks for the reply Steve. I am really surprised that someone from the UK has not responded. I guess that no one over there must use them. I guess I will just give them a try. Thanks Again Gary |

Longstone bought the moulds from Michelin and are the main source in the UK. I had 4 new 165SR15 XZX on my car when I bought it. The spare was a baldy crossply so I really hadn't any choice but to go to Longstone for the spare. it was expensive about £110 I think delivered. they have a good reputation in UK and regularly attend race meetings and Hillclimbs with their fitting truck. ant comment on service/ delivery to US Eddie |

I buy a lot of car parts from the UK. Not tires though but I understand Longstone to be a reputable supplier. Also remember you won't need to pay tax (VAT) which saves 20%. Exchange rate is very favorable just now. |

Thanks Guys. That is what I wanted to hear. I tried to place an order last night, but my C.Card was declined twice, because they thought it was fraudulent purchase, I guess because it was going to the UK. Now I have a big mess with my card company, but that is a whole nother story. Nothing to do with Longstone. Thanks for the replies. Gary |

A month or two ago I decided to get new tires. The ones on the TD were purchased 06/21/1987 at Farm and Fleet. [From original receipt] 5 ea 600-15 "Sport Premium" $26.95 (ea) 5 Tubes (radial) $7.95 (ea) 5 Mounting ($2.50 ea) 4 Balancing (weights on inside) $3.49 ea) I had ZERO miles on them but the sidewalls were all cracked. I decided on Vredestein Sprint Classics. I just could not bring myself to out Japanese tires on an early British car. At that time they were unavailable here. My tire guy put in an order for 5. They arrived last Tuesday. 5 Tires, Metal Valve stems, mounted, balanced, with shipping, $800. Interesting enough there is a note on the packaging, "TYRES DESIGNED TO BE FITTED TO VEHICLES REGISTERED FOR THE FIRST TIME BEFORE 1 OCTOBER 1990" Jim B. |

Jim, just curious; how come that you had new 30 year old tires? |

30 years ago I lived in Wisconsin. The car had already been apart for 20 years. At that time only the motor and suspension were on the chassis. I did not anticipate it would be another 30 years before I finished. I purchased new tires back then because the old ones were old and worn. I do have to show the neat valve stems my friend Donnie had the tire guy put on. Donnie is a drag racer. These are what they use. Jim B. ![]() |

Longstone Tyres are very well known in the UK for their varied stock, expertise and rather 'racey' adverts featuring two scantily clad young ladies!! Their adverts appear regularly in UK motoring mags and certainly in MGCC Safety Fast issues from time to time. Just for your information of course! Peter. |

Jim, I'm really surprised that your drag racer friend didn't realize that the rims need tubes,,,,, Steve |

That issue has been discussed here many times. As I understand it, there are lots of owners running them tubeless. If I were racing, I might have second thoughts but I am not and even the tries seem to say they are designed for early rims. Just add me to the no-tube's group. Jim B. |
