MG TD TF 1500 - Looking for Top Washers
I have searched the web and have not found a suitable replacement for the original countersunk with flange washers used to fasten the back of the top onto the back rail. Does anyone have some of these in their spares they are willing to part with? I have found some that are close, but either not brass or coated with nickel. I have ordered a few of these to see if I can take the nickel off. ![]() |

I'm not sure of the exact shape, but McMaster Carr has countersunk washers in brass. https://www.mcmaster.com/standard-washers/washer-type~countersunk/material~brass/ I also have bought some from Woolies in the UK, although the ones I bought were nickel plated. https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/category/339/cup-washers |

Thanks Lew. Yes, I visited their site when I was searching the internet. There are a number of places that have the countersunk flanged in nickel-plated brass. If I can't find these in the MG community, I will get the nickel-plated ones and do reverse electrolysis to remove the nickel. It is interesting that they will plate the brass, but not sell them in brass finish. |

Bruce: Are you going to use brass or plated screws? Whatever you use I would have them match. |

Bruce, What am I missing here? The link that Lew sent has plain copper finishing washers as well as black and nickel plated ones. Or you can find them here as well: https://shop.hillmangroup.com/ccrz__ProductList?operation=quickSearch&searchText=brass%20countersunk%20washers&cclcl=en_US |

Gene: He wants the flanged washers in unplated brass. Bruce is very discriminating. :-) |

I have sent an inquiry to see if they have the countersunk flanged in unplated brass. If need be, I can remove the plating. |

MCmasters does not have them in just brass. So, I will order theirs and just take the plating off. Thanks. |

I did a lot of looking and was able to find countersunk flanged washers, but unfortunately, everyone that has them has brass plated with nickel. I bought a box and reverse electroplated them. Here is the before and after. The brass polished up to where it is a bit hard to see it is yellow. I have 100 of the washers, so if anyone needs to install the top and wants washers similar to original, let me know. ![]() |

Looks good. But us lazy people attached our tops with snaps. This way it lays down better when folded and you can also drag stuff in and out the back when up but unsnapped. :-) ![]() |

If I were doing it other than factory correct, I would have added snaps and also hinged the side curtain box at the top for easy access. |
