MG TD TF 1500 - Lucas driving light dates ?

I asked this question of the MGA group a couple of days ago with no reply, they must all be out driving. Does anyone know for sure when Lucas stopped dating the stem of their driving/fog lamps ? I have one on the 57 when I got it dated 5/55, perfect for a TF 1500. Any history about the dates I can learn ? Thanks.................Curt

Curt - I've asked this question of other groups before and have never gotten a reply either. I have a Lucas driving lamp dated 9 55 on my TF 1500 and have seen one for sale a few years back dated 3/56. Dated light are like hens teeth now and fetching a pretty penny like everything dated, NOT reproduction with a date. This isn't much help but I would also like to know some history behind the dating. Surely a Lucas historian will come to your rescue with the elusive details. Jay

Interesting Curt

Where on the stem is the date? Can you post a photo?
Mine are old, but I'd like to know how old.

Pretty TF Tom. Dates are on the back side facing you grill between the mounting cup & the lamp body. On your car, you will probably need a mirror. JEB

Its high on the back of the stem-shell.
I have 1254 (Dec 54) on both of my TF1500 spotlights and I have a spare with 360 (March 60),this one being the later type with the double-ridged 'eyebrow'.

Thanks Matthew, at least now we know they went into the MGA's & early 60's. Sam

963 on mine. Obviously added by the guy I bought mine from. He bought the car in 1960.

7/54 on mine- appropriate for my TF- not sure if I want to use them, I like the clean look of the TF without them- but will keep them just in case.

Wow, got them into 1963 even, maybe installed on an MGB ? Sam

Or perhaps when did they start dating? I have some very old, and no date.

Interesting. Thanks for the date shot JB.
Mine are old but no dates. So, I guess the are "old" reproductions.

I have had my TD since 1966. The lamp came with it.
It seems to have a different base and I can not fine a date code.

JAB - interesting driving lamp Jim, I've never seen that one before, it could be pre-war ! What size is it {diameter}, and the mounting base looks pre-war style also ? Does the crown say LUCAS ? Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sam
SW SAM

Sam;
The boss on the top is plain, no script.
The light seems to be about 6" diameter.

Thanks

I don't think the Lumax were date stamped. Lucas date stamped everything.
