MG TD TF 1500 - Metric Speedo for TF

I’m tired of converting MPH to K/h. The whole world is now metric and I would like to find a metric speedometer for my TF. Does anyone have one that they are prepared to sell?

Moss used to sell a decal set that included a metric dial decal, all you need to do is change the decal on your speedo.

Gord,

Does that mean that you are never going to cross the border in your TF? Last I looked we were still using MPH. ;-)

Otherwise, try Hugh Pite: jenntoo@shaw.ca

In Australia when we went metric I could not teach my father-in-law math, so I stuck son tape on his speedometer at 60kmh and 100kmh.

But as an aside, I would wear a badge of honour to get a speeding ticket in a T Series.

No Jim; my interest is strictly cosmetic, and we are not using MPH. We're using Kilometres/hour.

I believe the US is the only country left in the world, not using metric. The entire US automotive system has gone metric, as is the medical system and many other businesses. I think its just a matter of time.

The sticker idea just died, I think. But a good idea. I can make one with Photoshop AI and my colour laser printer but the odometer is still in the old system.

Declan Burns in Germany can sell you a new face for the speedo and then have it re-calibrated.
PJ Jennings

Does the odometer really matter though Gord, I just printed up a new face for the speedo in my elan, removed the speedo glass and stuck it onto the old face with removable craft glue--works a treat and still have the original speedo there just for originality if it's needed, the odometer doesn't really matter-to me anyway

Paul,
I don't have dial faces for the TF. I could make a black km/h sticker though.

In the past Nissonger Instruments could re-calibrate a gauge to suit the individual car but they no longer do instrument repairs/modifications. Maybe West Valley Instruments in Southern California has taken this up?
John Quilter (TD8986)

Thanks folks but the West Valley option is going to get pricey. I have good equipment and can make my own decal. Full Photoshop CS 5.5, Xerox colour laser, and a vinyl cutter.

All I need is for somebody to stick a pin in my butt to get it done!

Last word; UK is still on MPH.Something about the French going metric in Napoleon's time.

In Australia we have had a fully Metric system for over 50 years. It really does help matters. Speedos are not difficult however. Calibrate your speedo against a phone GPS and just take note of the old MPH equivalent. Or have the metric decals applied to the inside of the gauge.

The real bugbear is not speed, but measurement with non-metric systems. I can't get my head around crazy measurements of 15/16" or x/32" of an 'inch" any more. And don't even start on thread pitches. This is where metrics are a clear winner.

In the UK they are reinstating and rebuilding the the Oxford to Cambridge railway line. Here’s the new sign on a rebuilt bridge.
