MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD Advice

Hi,

Chris Couper, very kindly recommended me to this website. I'm looking for some advice regarding an MG TD that was a project that my late father was unable to complete. Myself and my brother are currently weighing up what to do with it. Unfortunately we are not skilled enough to restore it ourselves, our first thought was to try and find a local enthusiast to help us restore it to its glory. The other option is to sell it as it is, but its very difficult to value.

Here's some photos: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ia02sx30admtd6y/AABh6ri-3IAn9Vd2qoLtdSYLa?dl=0

The leather seats are in good condition, lights etc boxed and in original state, original windscreen in tact.

It would be great to hear any thoughts on the value in its current state and any information a buyer would need. I've been asked if the engine will crank over, but I have no idea where to start to be completely honest!

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated

The car is located in Bristol, United Kingdom, should anyone want to come and have a look at it in person.

Thanks

Marcus

If storage isn't an issue then why not keep it to honour your father? It is possible to know nothing and yet make a fine fist of restoring one of these cars with a little help from your friends and there are more than a few of these on this BBS. It will cost a few bob but if time isn't a concern it would be a great project for you both to get involved it. My vote is to keep it if you can and take things one day at a time. I've been waiting for over 50 years to drive mine again. Cheers

Hi Marcus

You could try emailing the Secretary of the MGCC South West Centre (he has a T type) - to see if they can help -

Have you got the car registered with a modern vehicle logbook V5c? You can check online on the gov.motoring MoT search or vehicle search functions - hopefully you have the paperwork that this the car is currently registered with the correct vehicle details and to the correct owner. Do the engine and chassis numbers and colour and body type (sports) match the logbook? Also what other paperwork do you have, e.g.car history, old invoices?

You may wish to call one of the specialist dealers who sell T series MG projects and cars for an idea on price, for example https://www.stevebakermg.co.uk/carsforsale.htm
https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/user/ccts3735/

Look on carandclassic.co.uk for an idea on car and project prices. And https://www.mgcc.co.uk/t-register/for-sale-and-wanted/ Also classic car mags have vehicle value tables for a range of condition of vehicles from project to pristine.

Many cars were exported to USA, so if this is a UK registered car there may be UK interest.

How rusty it is and how much work it needs is always an issue. As well as are all the bits there? An experienced set of eyes may help.

Your father's solicitor/executor should be able to advise on vehicle registration and who/when can a sale take place

Good luck!

Cheers

The old log book appears to be from a different vehicle, possibly an MGA.

As for the collection of parts, it looks eminently restorable with care and some basic skills.

It looks like 1250cc on the old "V" form so TD not MGA
The old buff book does not belong to it.

Marcus. I did not see pictures of the front fenders, but from what I see, this is in pretty good condition.

Yes, it needs a lot, but this is not a hard car to restore.

If this was a car your father owned for some time, restoring it would be a great tribute to him.

I hope you find someone that can assist you in bringing this one back on the road.
