MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD favorite color.

I've painted my last three cars black. The wife says the next TD will not be black. Looking for suggestions. What's you favorite TD color?

Tim Burchfield

BRG for sure!!

What was its original color? Check the backside of the fuel tank. Bud

Bud, Autumn Red.

Real BRG
D. Sander

Tim, is that its color, or are you yanking my chain? Bud
Bud Krueger

Bud, no it really is. I was going to paint the last TD Autumn Red but I didn't like what I considered to be the most accurate AR. I liked yours but I think the original was more of a muddy red. I think I got the color code from you and I may go with that after all.

Definitely Clipper Blue. It's a gorgeous color and your wife will love it.
Kevin McLemore

Clipper Blue or BRG.

If you are not looking for an original color, my TD came with this orange/red.
I just love it!

C.M. groucho

My TD, which I have owned for 35 years, was and still sports the color of the TD shown by C.M.
While it looks a light red under normal sunlight, it turns to a rather embarrassingly bright orange when seen under a sodium street light. People have remarked that it looks like Cinderella coming in her pumpkin carriage.
I am hoping to repaint this winter.
Lew Palmer

Although TD 0581 is creme with green interior, I am very partial to clipper blue with a tan interior.
Charles Duffy

Autumn Red is gorgeous

J Cosin

Or, 68 Jag Regency Red. PJ

PJ Jennings

Jaguar dark blue.

R A WILSON

J Cosin, that looks the closest to the original Autumn Red that I've seen. It certainly look like the Autumn Red I've found on the two TDs I have.

This looks a little whiter than it is, more off white, or ivory.

Have to admit - I think the white wing (fender) piping and chrome grill slats suit Peter Hehir's TD. I wonder if some of the rubber parts are available in white - possibly the rubber at the rear of the bonnet (hood) - although it could be overkill. Is the bonnet (hood) rear hinge bracket missing?
R A WILSON

R A Wilson, unfortunately you car looks black on my monitor. I really like the very dark blue. I once had a 69 911 that color. Don't know if it was an original Porsche color or not.

My TF looks great in BRG. The TD I had 40 years ago was Clipper Blue. I thought then, and believe now, that Clipper Blue looks awesome!

My opinion...

RA that's not my TD however mine is the same colour but with a beige interior. It belongs to a bloke by the name of Bill Brown. I think he's from the States. I'm also partial to Clipper Blue & was won over years ago when I saw my first 1920's two seater Bugatti in that colour. It may have been in a movie about Isadora Duncan. Cheers

My TF in a Jag BRG, actually yhe same as Mazda Miata MRG

Rb Harding

According to Wikipedia, BRG is really a range of dark green colors. I'm kind partial to the color of my 52 MG TD which is Woodland green.

Mike is right: actually BRG is a range of dark greens. When I wanted to repaint my Rover P6B 3500 in BRG I couldn't decide till the painter said: 'This one I once used on a garden fence'. Since then I call it Garden Fence Green.

For Tim Burchfield - I agree with you, the photo is very dark. It, and others, was only taken for my car insurer, but it is obvious that I did not take the shot with the sun behind me. The photo of the other side is the same, and the appropriate photo would have been of the front of the car, but by then the sun had disappeared (England !!).
I will think on this as I would like some decent photos myself.
R A WILSON

BRG could be any shade of green. This is the one year only Miata version on my TF. I'd say it leans toward the blue scale myself.

L E D LaVerne

I think I would prefer this version on this Mini. It's closer to the Jaguar BRG I have seen. Darker with some more black in it I think.

L E D LaVerne

I did some test colors for my TD. I wanted Clipper Blue...Wife wanted Autumn Red.

L E D LaVerne

I compromised and painted it black

L E D LaVerne

Ed's green TD

L E D LaVerne

Jon B's TF next to mine. More towards the yellow scale.

L E D LaVerne

Very nice Autumn Red TD

Tom's Clipper Blue TD

Dan Craigs Woodland Green ( I think) MK II TD

Emmgee RED ??

More to choose from

In Grey

L E D LaVerne

Not an MG, but this is the green on my TR3. I think the PO was shooting for BRG, but it has a little to much blue. I have never had so many compliments on a color though.

Tough to pick. They're all beautiful.

Gary, I wonder if that is Posieden Green? It was a Jag/Triumph color I put on a BGT many years ago. Had just a touch of metallic to it.

Thanks LaVerne.
TRM Maine

My car looks like the one Peter posted in fact I thought it was mine. It is painted in Old English White (ivory colour) and looks stunning and certainly stands out in a crowd.
John...Sydney
J Walton

Laverne, could be, it does have a small amount of metallic.
Gary

LaVerne,

What kind of seats does Ed's green TD have?

Thanks, Bobby L.
B. F. Loughridge

I think they came out of a Toyota. Maybe he will look here again and let us know.
L E D LaVerne

I'm sure glad you're abandoning black.

Nothing classy about black. Black is the colour of death.

The only time I will ride in a black car, will be when I'm dead! and even then I'll have no choice!

Clipper Blue gets my vote too.

It's not a TD but my all time favourite for a TC is Black, with Green interior..

We like to take after Al Moss's TC - on my 53 TD

Green, specifically mid-2000s Range Rover Belize green, which is in between the two original greens. George

Peter,

Thank you so much for the compliment of color choice. I picked this color because it was the best match of color my TD was born with.

Here is what not to paint it.

L E D LaVerne

That didn't work....at least for me so

L E D LaVerne

Also skip the two tone John Deere theme

L E D LaVerne

Though according to the published info TD's were not available in this combination, it works for me. However there is a record of a dozen or so TC's imported into Sydney in this combination, (sequoia cream)/ivory/beige. Apart from the hinges & wheels I'd be happy if mine looked as good as this. Cheers
Peter TD 5801

L E D, I suspect that the last one ugly one is a kit. Look where the tail pipe is. Bud
Bud Krueger

The link to the ad didn't work for me , but it says it has an MGB drive train so that makes sense on the tail pipe. The usual give away is the windscreen frame and it looks the part of the TD as well as the rest of the bits.....just not the Mary Kay color job.
L E D LaVerne

Clipper Blue on a TC or TD looks fantastic.
Jack Long

Jaguar midnight blue

Monza Red
