MG TD TF 1500 - MG TD Horn Dipper switch repair
Anyone repaired a broken lever on the TD horn dipper switch? If so what was the process? Does anyone know of a source of the lever or have one to sell? I hate to buy and entire switch just for the lever especially since mine is in otherwise excellent shape. Thanks Tim TD12524 ![]() |

I haven't had to do it on the dipper switch, but I think you'll find that if you first clean the remaining portion well with lacquer thinner, then build it back up with epoxy, and grind and sand it to shape, you will effect a satisfactory repair. Paint it or use the Pensbury dye (as advertised in the TSO), it will be hard to tell it was repaired. |

Robert Gibson wrote an article on this about 50 years ago. Pretty much as Lew described except I seem to recall he used a screw thread to pin it & then built up the lever around that. This ensured that it didn't break again at the repair point. Your ignition switch looks a little strange though. The fascia seems to be out of kilter with the lever & the lock. They're in the correct position however the word LUCAS should be at the bottom. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Lew, thanks for the idea, sounds good. Peter, that is just a photo I pulled off the Internet. Not my car. I don't suppose you know where I might find Gibson's article do you? Regards Tim TD12524 |

I think I might have a copy. It was published in the TSO. Let me see if I can find it & I'll email it to you. Pleased that it isn't your car. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
