MG TD TF 1500 - MG XPAG special
Hello, Recently I bought the remains (see pic) of a 1954 built one-off XPAG racer called the "Blankevoort Special". It raced on the Dutch racing circuit of Zandvoort in the 1950's in the hands of its creator Willem Blankevoort. My intention is to bring it back to its original glory. (see next pic.) For that any information/photo's is more than welcome. Moreover I'd like to get in touch with other owners of XPAG-specials anywhere in the world ![]() |

Hello, Thank you for your reactions and interest in this project. Nick: Yes, thank you, I know of these articles, and already have them as well as two pics of the car racing in the fifties. (see pic) It seems, that there is not much known of it, it didn't win any races as far as I have found out sofar. David: I will contact Steward, thank you. Erik |

Erik - First of all, BRAVO! Is there any information on the engine originally used in this car - any details of construction? Thanks. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Thank you Tom. The car was built with a prewar Lancia Augusta front and rear suspension and engine, Later an Xpag was fitted. I intend to install an XPAG, maybe with a crossflow head and/or a supercharger. Here is another pic of the car, this time in action on the 18th of May 1959. Erik ![]() |

The two more recent colour photos show the car in rather a sorry state - was it crashed? Also, in the photo in a field, the steering column is not in position - has the engine been removed, possibly by persons unknown? |
R A WILSON |
Hello, No, as far as I can see, it is not crashed. The alu body has lots of dents, but no damage to the tube frame. There is no engine or gearbox. The steering box is still there. E. |

Well dome Erik. A piece of history well worth saving. Please keep us advised as you move forward. Pix seem to be all at Zandvoort amongst the sand dunes which I remember well. Took the train there to watch a F2 race. Sometime in the early 1960s - can't remember. Bernie Ecklestone was racing a Brabham. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Erik, Congratulations on finding this car. How did you locate it? Charlie |

Hello All,
Yesterday it was taken from its storage and I was finally able to inspect it thoroughly. (see pic). It is gonna be a hell of a job, but I'm looking forward to it! Before storage it has been lying in an orchard for some 30 years or so. I bought it from the man who bought it from the widow of Willem Blankevoort, its creator. I visited this man several years ago, but then he did'nt want to sell. A few weeks ago I finally succeeded in obtaining it. Apart from a few racing photo's I cannot find any info. So help is still very much needed. I'll keep you all posted ![]() |

Interesting cars in the background. What is between the 2CV and your car. Jim |

There is a website called "Autopuzzles" the information below is taken from there: "This is the Dutch Blankevoor Special. It is based on a Maserati A6GCS and parts of a Lancia Augusta. It was built in 1954. The people who worked on this car were the company of Van Hattum and Blankevoort and the Dutch guy Jan Du Rieu. The carrosseriefirm Balm made the streamlined body. The motor was from a Lancia but later the used a MG TD motor." Kind regards, Michael |

Michael's post mentions the A6gcs. These were originally Coupe's but two were re-bodied as spyders. Here is a link, I found, with a lot of pictures. The resemblance is there. Might just help. https://www.supercars.net/blog/1953-maserati-a6gcs53-spyder-gallery-2/ Jim B. |

Good Morning,
(It is a bright Sunday morning in the Netherlands) Good idea Jasper! I did not think of that sofar; I'll contact Wiard. James: That car next to it is a prewar Hotchkiss (French) in a very sorry state. (My car is still with the man I bought it from, which a classic car restorer) By the way,the car next to the Hotchkiss is a 203 Peugeot, not a 2CV. Michael: Nice to hear from the other side of this planet, and perfect that you could find this info. Alas the chassis is not from a Maserati, it is build with a Maserati in mind, with parts of a Lancia Augusta. It has no engine, but as I already told you all, I intend to fit an XPAG again. Jim: Nice website! Indeed it resembles those spiders, although it has a kind of strange "fronthump" (see pic) Erik ![]() |

Since the special is more Lancia than MG, maybe Wim Oude Weernink knows more ? Just my 2cts.... Nick (TD3232) |
