T Register Mystery Re EFE151 and Daily Express rally Nov 1950
Hi All

I'm in UK until the end of July.

Have managed to get a copy of the Programme and Results for the1950 Daily Express 1000 Mile rally off Ebay.

Mystery is that entry No 419, EFE151, which was shown in the Daily Express article was in fact entered by D.J.G Hindle and J.R.J. Mansbridge Class B MG 1250 M.C.C. Starting in Manchester but not listed as losing less than14 marks. Actually 308.14

As you know that article was identified in the forum you kindly copied to me listed A.K. Dyke and co-driver Ron Goldbourn. Neither of these persons are listed in either the programme or the results.

So there are a few possibilities. The newspaper article was staged or the identification of the people was incorrect?

I'd appreciate your thoughts?

Naturally as the current owner I'd like to be able to get the correct info for my records.

I do have some ownership history for UK but can't access this until I get home in August.

Mansbridge was the owner of a motor dealership in Lincoln, tne city where the MG was originally registered. I suppose it's possible thst he was an entrant but not a driver.

I have found a 1955 newspaper article in which "former winner" Mansbridge was to drive an MG one and a quarter litre saloon (sic) in an event.

I will give this more attention in a couple of days when I return home where it will be easier to look at old newspapers on a PC rather than on a tablet.

JRJM was born in Lincoln in 1920 and, at the start of WW2 was employed as a Fitter and Erector of Light Tanks at one of Lincoln's engineering works. His father was an Engine Fitter and Tester, probably at the same works.

Lots of interesting information so far...
I did a quick Google search on J.R.J ("Reg") Mansbridge and it appears he had a RR/Rover/Daimler/Jaguar/Triumph/Morris/Wolseley and MG dealership in Rumboldstreet in Lincoln. It was also known as the "White Heart Garage".
Furthermore he seems to have been a rather succesfull rally driver: doing the 1951 Alpine Rally in an Allard, the 1952 Monte Carlo in a Mk.V Jaguar, with Ian Appleyard the 1955 RAC Rally in a MG TF registered HRX766 and won an Alpine Cup driving an XK 120 Jaguar in the 1953 Alpine Rally !
So it seems very well possible he was the driver of EFE151 in the 1950 Daily Express 1000 miles Car Rally.

"White Hart Garage" took its name from the hotel on the opposite side of Bailgate, Lincoln. My 1957 street directory confirms that JRJM was its owner. Nowadays, it has the same name but is owned by the hotel for its guests to park in.

Tks guys, I do appreciate the trouble you have gone to so far.

Hopefully we'll get to a conclusion.

I need to still get comment /confirmation on the identification of the drivers shown in the Daily Express report and photo.

I recall that My Dykes's brother did comment on this but can't find that here?

Kind regards Ross

Hi all, I'm heading home on Saturday. Bit of time in USA but when home will check my UK ownership info to see whether that helps.

Thanks for your support.
