MG TD TF 1500 - mgtd clutch problem

with engine running shifts only while grinding. all new clutch press. plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing. clutch has about 1" play. anyone has any thoughts.les

Reduce the play to about a have inch. Cable or rods? More info needed.

I'm not even sure what it means "shifts only while grinding." Do you mean that it shifts, but that you grind gears? Could be adjustment, could be that you are shifting too fast.

As Bill requests, more information, please.

Les, who installed the clutch disc? Are you sure it's not facing the wrong way? Bud

it is rods not cable for the clutch adjust.

1/2 clutch play in the peddle. Disc incorrectly installed is a possibility though should have been obvious when offering it to the flywheel. A twisted input shaft or jagged wear on the splines would/could prevent the clutch to function properly as well
