MG TD TF 1500 - Monaro Motors in Au
Is Monaro Motors in Australia still in business or an affiliate? I think they were in Melbourne? PJ |

Haven't heard that name for years--They used to be at 506 Spencer street Melbourne but that's a furniture shop now Anything in particular you're looking for--?, they used to sell a lot of speed equipment years ago, manifolds ,twin carby setups etc They were also in business with a company called Automotive Carburettor company which isn't about either Found this link to a few pics but that doesn't help much really-- http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14691 willy |

Well Willy I have a habit of trying to find impossible parts and accessories for old cars, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Monaro sold these TF stone guards at one time, just trying to see if any are still around. Just assuming that since they were made in your country it would be the most likely place to look. PJ

PJ, I have been searching for a set also. If you ever find someone willing to manufacture them, count me in. Thank you, Dave |
David Hodson |
They should be easy enough to make in a couple of hours with a planishing hammer. A couple of wood bucks that match the mudguard contours. You could even have a die set made to strike the logos. |
W A Chasser |
PJ- no promises but I'll see what i can find out about who the manufacturer was etc--I'd guess it's been researched before but -you never know till you ask willy |

Thanks Willy, so many manufacturers and sales companies have disappeared over the years for auto accessories, probably the only way to get a pair is to make them. But saying that, they wouldn't be the original ones made in Australia. PJ |

Paul Having never seen a pair of these in the flesh, it's been mentioned they have a roughish finish, could you tell me please if they're cast or pressed, just so I know what to ask about without looking too stupid If they were cast then it would be magic to get hold of the moulds, same if they were stamped I guess the bucks must be somewhere---------maybe thanks |
William Revit |
They are stamped aluminium. |
L E D LaVerne |
Thanks------- |

LaVerne, I have always coveted the set you have on your TF. Should you decide to gift them to me, I would add you to my Christmas card list and commit to lending them to Paul for the entire month of December each year. Just something for you to consider. ;-) Dave |

Dave, That sounds like a winner! LOL! PJ |

Gee David....that's a fine offer. I'll have to consider it. :-) |

I bought a decent pair a week ago on Facebook in Australia for $60. Some are still around I suspect. I still haven't fitted them. Trying to decide!

I can test fit them on my car for a year if you'd like! I'll pay for shipping! :) I'm not seeing any mounting holes. Any indication of how those may have been attached before....if ever? |
Jim Rice |
Thanks Jim! I will see how I go. There was one hole in each on at the bottom which I have metal filled. I plan to slide them under the horizontal rubber/poly strip on the running board and use a suitable adhesive to place them properly. They needed a little careful shaping to get a perfect fit but in the end they would sit well. |

There's a TF in Shannons auctions at the moment with a set on it, They're a bit bigger than I'd imagined they'd be- There's hope yet then Paul, I'll keep my eyes open for a set----what would be your expected price to pay for a set if I need to make a speedy decision -plus it'd be probably round $30Au-? postage Cheers willy |
William Revit |
Willy, Thanks for looking, but I haven't a clue what their worth with condition, etc. That would be like signing a blank check. I would need an asking price to make a decision. PJ |

Haven't been thinking clearly for the past week as we lost our Maltese to a 9-year bout with diabetes and other ailments. She was my baby. My wife had a granite headstone made for her. Hard to get my head on straight, sorry. PJ
