MG TD TF 1500 - More bolt/screw questions.
Well, I though I was done with the TD fastener list. As with any project like this, assuring all the data is correct is important.
My TD did not have a lot of original fasteners. The bolts that hold the firewall to the body. I have them as 2.5". I just got a firewall kit from MGbits and theirs are 3". Anyone have a tub off where they can measure an original bolt? Also, the issue of slotted vs. phillips came up again. In my order, MGbits sent me seat rail to seat screws that are phillips. I am reasonably certain that for the early TD these should be slotted. |

While I do not have an exact picture of the screws on the bottom of the seat, holding the runners on. I do have a picture of the bottom of the seat showing the tool I used to remove the screws. An airgun with a slotted bit. I believe they were slotted. Jim B. ![]() |

Bruce there will be no Phillips head screws on your car originally |

http://www.ttalk.info/td_body_bolts.htm I believe the firewall bolt referenced above is correct. The longer ones also pass through and hold the steering column mount and the two upper corner attachment plates so they are a little longer. |

On my TF, the screws were slotted. So most likely the same on the TD. British fasteners has them. 2BA. Unsure of the length. Probably 3/4" Frank TF1414 |

TFs used slots for the seat runners. Hex head bolts were used on TDs to affix the bulkhead to the body tub whereas TFs had Carriage bolts. These BSF bolts had a round, raised head with a square section just under the head. This helped to prevent the bolt from turning when the nut was tightened. The diameter and length of the bulkhead bolts to body tub vary as Richard C has eluded to. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Did TDs have Slot Head or Phillips Head bolts holding the Windscreen Stanchions to the scuttle? Cheers Rob Grantham |

Slots early, Phillips late. The TD was the transition vehicle from the TC which was entirely slots to the TF which was entirely Phillips. There may well have been some exceptions. The change over was gradual as supplies of slots used for a particular fixing were exhausted, so there never was a firm date, but the early/late swap over is a good guide. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I added slotted for the runner to seat to my list and also sent Paul at MGbits a note on it. He did have a 2BA slotted in the right length, but with a rounded head. |
