MG TD TF 1500 - MORE windscreen stantion questions

I am really confused now! I too am about to have two pairs of TD & 55 TF stations rechromed, but I think I have a problem! Were aftermarket or reproduction stations (not mounting brackets on cowl) ever sold? I am pretty sure both my sets are originals but there is a difference. The TF's #'s are X-1513 & X-1514, the TD's are X-402 for both sides LH & RH, Also, one of the X-402's is 1/2" longer AND the TF's are .500 wide, the 402's are .565 wide. I'm afraid all this doesn't make much sense that the factory would do this, don't they have to be aftermarket parts? From what I've read, TD & TF's should both be X-1513 & X-1514? Scott

Moss lists different NLA part numbers for TD and TF, so they must be different. Isn't the TF windscreen angled back more? Seems the bracket angle would be different if that is the case.

search "cowl bracket" in 2013 archive.
It covers all you need to know about TD/TF cowl brackets. The are quite different and as only 10000 or so TFs were made they are hard to come by.

I think I can clear all of your confusion up. The TC TD & TF mounting brackets/cowl brackets (hold the windscreen onto the body tub) are all three different and will NOT work if interchanged. The side supports (these bolt to the windscreen) are the SAME for TD & TF but are not correct for TC (they may fit/work but some design differences) The correct #'s for the TD/TF are X-1513 & X-1514. The side supports you have X-402's (I have a pair also on my TD) were not aftermarket but another vendor to 'The Works' during that time frame. This information came from Gerry Gogen back 30 years ago. The company 'Meadow Stream' did not have the same quality as the original supplier and was dropped for those reasons. Gerry said he believed they could not keep up with production demands also. They are handed but both carry the came part number X-402, very strange. Russ WV

I mis-read the initial post and was talking about cowl brackets above, sorry about that. The parts in question are the same TD/TF as noted. Thanks for the clarification and inside info RAH. George

I just got my parts back this morning from the chrome shop, sure enough the side supports are X-402 on both parts. I have a late 51 if that makes any difference. Just passing on info to the group, I'm pretty sure these are original to the car but can't swear to it. Sam

The X-402 are the ones used on a TC windscreen. It is possible that early TD's used them if the factory had extra ones in stock after the TC production ceased (this is only speculation and I rather doubt it).
