MG TD TF 1500 - Moss Higher Ratio diff

Moss have available new higher ratios differentials for TD & TF rear axles. Has anyone fitted one and how did they perform?
R J Marshall

Only in the UK? Do you have a part(s) number?

Timothy Burchfield

Yes, I fitted one. Seems fine, a little noise on the over-run, but could just be how I set it. I replaced some of the bearings in the kit with better ones. You need several nuts for the pinion shaft owing to the level of torque required in setting up, which you might need to do several times to get the preload right. The kits have been advertised on ebay uk for many months, for around £200.

Hi Dave
How long did it take you? approx ,and is it a two man job.

A couple of weeks I think with a lot of fiddling about, double checking and repeating, its not the simplest job that I have done, I did everything on my own, other than the excellent support and guidance that
I got from Declan Burns via the internet. I had to make some tooling to fit the bearing cups, and modify spacers, etc. I have a small lathe.

I was quoted £200.40 including taxes. Apparently they are made in India

Another supplier I got from Declan Burns is Bastuck in Germany. See bastuck.de and search for MGA parts.

Tim,

There was a guy in NY that did them with the 4.3/1 on Ebay.

Don't see any on there now, but I did buy a puller from him and it is still in the box so I should have his address.

He claims to have done a lot of them. Also I found somebody that does them in NJ but he needs your rear end to modify.

I have a Dave Clark 4.3/1 ready to install when I retire in 2 weeks, my 4.875/1 will be on the market, delivery for a fee, withing 500 miles of Buffalo, NY.

I wonder if Bob Granau to Ontarion, CA does them, he is close to Buffalo. (1 hour)

Peter

PS. Heading down to Ohio in 3 weeks or so, USAF museum is primary reason but doing some sightseeing along the way too.

The National Air Museum at Wright-Patterson is huge and has three wings. Dad and I toured the museum in 2005. Bring your walking shoes and if you’ve never been there before expect to spend at least a full day to take it all in.

Enjoy
