MG TD TF 1500 - Motor mount nut size
What the heck thread is Moss using on the front motor mount studs imbedded in the rubber. None of my BSF or BSW hardware fits it |
W. A. Chasser Jr |
According to Moss website it is 3/8 UNF stud & nut |
Stuart Duncan 1953 TD |
should be 3/8 BSF part no 311-220 is the nut but they have a repo version that is unf 310-050 |

Mine must be und because my new BSF hardware doesn't work. I'm presuming UNF IIs the same as SAE ? To many damn threads to keep at straight! 3/8 x 24 didn't even enter my vocabulary... But I have a few choice new words to add. Lol Thanks Bill Chasser jr TD 4834 |

Well I just came back from the hardware store with 3/8 x 24 nuts and they don't fit either. I'm at a complete loss I have BSF nuts that don't fit I have UNF / SAE. And they don't fit. WT_? |

Have you tried metric ?? Gerard |
Gerard Hengeveld |
Yep. I just tried a metric and no go. Looks like I'll be lifting the engine to remove the rubber tomorrow and out a thread gauge on it and / or take it with me to the hardware store. Barring that I'll run a die down it to make something I can use. Very frustrating to take half a day on this one item and still not have it resolved. Time to give it a rest for today... Bill - According to the information that I have it should be a 8 X 1 mm thread, which seems a bit small to my thinking. Whether it is 8 or 10 mm is is going to be a thread that is not available at Agent Orange or Lowe's since the studs used in the TD are an obsolete French Standard metric (either a 8 X 1mm or a 10 X 1.5). That said Moss Motors may have something completely different. Cheers - Dave |

McMasters has them. Listed as fine thread metric Jim B. |

Dave my hardware store had 10m x 1 and it didn't work either. I think 8m is too small. Tomorrow I'm taking the part with me. I'm just so fed up with hardware issues. Now I need the screws for the brake switch terminals. Mine were missing. I also can't find a bolt for the Dynamo Adjustment arm slot the thread in the front plate is coarse thread (?) Bill Phone Moss about nuts. The mount I bought last year came with nuts. Perhaps yours were left off. Tom 54 TF |

Hi Tom Tom, Unfortunately the mount I have is old stock that came with the car. I have no idea how old is now or when it was actually purchased from Moss. There's likely no way of knowing if there was a manufacturer change as to the thread at this point I will have to do further sleuthing once I take it back out of the chassis Jim & Dave, My local hard ware store has 8m x 1 & 1.25 pitch and 10m x 1 (?) and 1.5 pitch surely one of these has to work. Will try again this AM Cheers Bill Chasser jr TD4834 |
W. A. Chasser Jr |
If it is NOS and truly OLD, not sure I would use it. Rubber gets hard and brittle with age. I'd get a new one. Tom |
T Norby |
Tom It is not NOS. Repo part but it came with the car when I purchased it. I just don't know when it was purchased. It is solid condition with no deterioration of the rubber and the vulcanization is sound. Cheers. Bill Chasser jr TD4834 |

Bill when you get your nut issue sorted check to ensure the crank handle still engages the pulley when offered through the radiator cross member. I had to pull my AM front mount out again & fit a plate under it so I could engage the crank handle. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I finally found the right combination. 10m x 1.25. Thanks all for your help Cheers Bill Chasser jr TD4834 |
