MG TD TF 1500 - Mounting the TF dash
The stud for the TF rear view mirror hangs down a good inch under the cowl. Is the dash positioned rear or forward of the stud? Does the stud go into the hole of the top center dashboard bracket? To secure the dash, there are the 2 side screws and the "H" frame under the dash. Does the top of the dash secure anywhere? thanks, Tyler |

The dash is forwards of the stud (towards the front of the car). The dash has a reclining angle, almost 45 degrees. My stud is about 1cm from the top of the instrument panel. Matthew. |

Tyler, the dash has a large tab/bracket top center. The dash tips back at a steep angle and the tab is secured to the metal frame with a 2BA screw. You will see a captive nut on the frame. regards John |

The center bracket is fastened with a screw ( at least on the ones I've worked on) to a captive nut. The mirror stud will be on the cockpit side of the dash.

Just as a side note...the order of assembly is the windshield....the side panels ...and lastly the dash assembly. You won't be able to get at the bottom of the stanchion screws if you don't follow that order. Here's a better image ![]() |

At least with the Moss replacement panels as shown.

On untouched cars I have had experience with in relation to the attachment tab/bracket to the angle metal frame ( sub scuttle panel) the set screw is hex head. Probably easier to release the dashboard compared to trying to get a screwdriver on in limited space available. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Thanks everyone, I found the capture nut. The mirror stud is still scary. Tyler |

Tyler, Just another small factor involved here, many of the repro. interior mirror studs are way too long compared to the originals. Cheers Rob Grantham |

First mount the mirror and them the dash or the other way around? |

On the basis that the dash is more difficult to handle I would go dash first. However it is easier to bolt up the mirror with no dash so I suppose you could wrap the stem to protect the dash during installation. Matthew. |

Have a look at the picture. Bottom on is I think an original mirror, top one is definitely a repro...

And the later mirrors used on most TF 1500's are quite different.
