MG TD TF 1500 - Mystery Hood Latch Bracket


I found one of my hood latch brackets that's 3/8" longer than the rest of them. I don't know where it came from but maybe with some parts stash I bought somewhere earlier in my life.

The longer one measures 3 5/8" long and my other TD brackets measure 3 1/4" long. Anyone know what car this odd long one fits? Could it be for a TC?

Hi Richard,

Yes, it is probably from a TC. I just measured my TC brackets and they are also 3 5/8" long.

Thanks Bob for taking the time to check yours. I'm glad I didn't install it on one of my TD fenders by mistake and find out later that the hood didn't latch properly.

What I found after measuring and comparing several parts on two cars and the ones Bud sent me. A couple of them measured about 1/16" shorter than the others. The ones I have that are all the same measure 3 1/8" over all length and 2 1/2" from the upper edge of the opening to the bolt mount holes. The two that were shorter will probably work ok because the spring on the latch handle mechanism should compensate as long as the hook will enter the bracket with the handle fully open. However, If possible I'd prefer to have a matched set because of limited clearance, the brackets are almost impossible to replace individually once the fenders are installed on a car.
