MG TD TF 1500 - Mystery Part
This came with some TD/TF stuff. That doesn't mean it's necessarily for a TD or TF but before I throw it away, any ideas?

Interesting part. I have no idea what it is, but not a TD part. |

Not TF either. |

Might be a foot peg bracket for an old Harley or Indian motorcycle...less the rubber foot peg covers? A google image search turned up something very similar looking for a Honda motorcycle. |

Next time you hit a swap meet gift it to a seller there Regards, Tom |

Steve,
Back in the '60s I regularly towed a 16ft sailboat behind my TF and not surprisingly trashed the barely adequate gearbox. After the 4th rebuild I decided to replace it with a more robust TC box. As you would realise, that involved modifying the rear mount by cutting out a section of the cross member and welding in an appropriately shaped section for the TC mounts to sit on. This piece needed to be very precisely aligned and held for welding and the item you have pictured - although quite different - does remind me of how I located the new piece while welding. Maybe there's another TD/TF out there with a TC box? Best from DownUnder Ian ... and yes, I still have the TF with the gearbox never needing repair. |
