MG TD TF 1500 - Need Measurements - TD Tank Board Dados

I'm making a tank backboard for a friend's 1950 TD. I'm ready to cut the two dados that accept the ends of the rear panel between the rear quarter panels.

Some of his pieces aren't easily available and the TD parts are different to my TF, so will you please make some measurements for me?

I'm looking for ...
"A" the depth of the two folded ends of the rear panel.
"B" the height of the rear panel
"C" the height of the rear top rail excluding the dado for the tank board.

(Looking for the parallel measurements, not the horizontal measurement implied by the diagram.)

Thanks for your help,

Bumping this post back to the top.

The main measurement that I need is the height of the TD rear panel that is between the rear quarter panels. I can estimate the other measurements. Gotta give the completed tank board to the TD owner Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for your help.

I think I still have one out in the shop Lonnie....if I can get to it.

Not quite done with this and I have stuff scattered everywhere.

Ok, I have some figures for you....

First the plywood is 3/8" thick

dimensions are 36 1/8" x 13 5/16"

The edges are all 90 degree cuts and not angled as you show in your drawing. The top and bottom frame rails have matching 90 degree slots that are cambered to mate up with the back board.

The dados measure 3 1/6" and 3 3/8" from the end on this piece, but as you can see in the photo above they don't line up with the original top slots. They are 3/8" wide and 1 /4" deep. The run down from the top of the board 4" including where they run out with no depth from the router bit....hope that makes sense.

Thanks LaVerne,

The measurement that I need is the height of the steel rear panel that is between the rear quarter panels and partially covers the top of the tank board. This measurement is better for me than the length of the dado in an existing tank board … because of the arch of my dado blade.

I would also appreciate the height of the rear side of the wooden rear top rail.

The height of the steel rear panel minus the height of the rear top rail will give me the distance from top edge of the plywood to the arbor of my table saw with a stacked dado blade. The dado blade will produce a sloping end that extend past the arbor that will allow water to escape as shown on the diagram.

I've already cut the 3/8" marine plywood to size (without beveled edges as incorrectly shown in my diagram.) Just need to cut the dados. The owner will drill holes and seal the wood.

Hope to give it to him at a club function tonight.

Thanks,

Can't help you there Lonnie.....the tubs at the painters....sorry

Thanks,

If I can't learn the height of the rear panel, then I'll cut the dado based on your measurements plus a little Kentucky windage.

Lonnie,

I just found your posting and I hope I'm not too late.

The steel panel above the tank board is 29-5/8" wide. Below the top of the body it is 5" top to bottom (plus the material over the top of the wooden piece and down another 1/2". At its face to the front side, the top wooden rail (not the trim piece) is 2-3/4". It is rabbeted out at its rear lower face to accept the tank board.

The dado cut on the tank board is 1/2" wide and runs from the top to as far down as the steel panel runs. It is as deep as necessary to accept the slight 90 degree bend the steel panel makes at its left and right vertical edges.

I hope this is clear. If not contact me at lew (at) roundaboutmanor(dot) com as I have the body of my TD torn down for a repaint.
