MG TD TF 1500 - Need new coil w/ screw-in HT lead

What type / brand / model number / source do you recommend for a coil for my TF-1500? Standard points / condenser ignition. I want a coil with screw-in high tension lead.

I bought a no-name coil from British Parts Northwest and have used it less than a year. Added a Lucas decal. Looked good. However, it ran scorching hot. I believe that it is finally starting to fail. Don't trust it any more.
BPNW coil:

So I reinstalled the Lucas coil that was in the car when I bought it a couple of years ago. It runs MUCH cooler than the BPNW coil. It has a push-in high tension lead / not screw-in.

Resistance across the low tension leads on both coils is 3.5 ohms.

I know that Moss sells a small diameter black coil that looks similar to coils used in TDs and early TFs. The no-name coil that I bought is bare metal like the coils used on later TFs. I would like something that looks kinda period correct or can be made to look correct.

What screw-in HT coil do you recommend?

Thanks,

I don't know if they exist. I am thinking of making one for my car though.
What about a screw/on to push-in adapter.

Still looking for a coil with screw-in HT lead.

Hugh Pite and some members of our local club have used coils. However, I prefer to purchase a new one ... if you can recommend a source.

Thanks,

Maybe just take the rubber boot off and slip the top part of a plastic nut onto the wire before the connector. No one will ever know unless they look really close.

I believe the coil on my car is original, or if it was replaced it was many years ago. It works perfect and runs cool, so I guess age isn't a problem on these. It had no paint on it, bare metal. Not knowing at the time I painted it, but might strip the paint off. PJ

Here is what I drew up as an adapter.
I would need to purchase a rod of 1/2" brass and a rod of 5/8" plastic.

Looking at eBay I find the brass is around $10 per foot and the plastic is around $7 per foot. If you are careful you can get free shipping.

I also Not that the LUCAS sport coil is on sale from FTFU just now for around $28.

The cross hatch is brass. It fits into the plastic. The screw from the HT lead retains the brass in the plastic. The brass then plugs into the coil.

I did not dimension everything at this stage.

I may make one in the next few weeks and there will be some changes.

I forgot the drawing.

I finished my adapter today.

I think it looks OK with the Lucas Sport Coil I have.

Yes I did cut the coil to distributor wire way too short. I need to order another foot.
